Airstream "Notel" Opens. Only $395 a night

James Fry is a parking garage magnate in Australia's coastal city of Melbourne.

His latest project, Notel, takes one of his structures to the next level. Six shiny Airstream trailers sit on top of a transformed garage space. Guests can rent a trailer for $395 a night

Fry rescued the retro Airstream trailers from a Santa Barbara, California, company for $70,000 each. He completely gutted them

Paying $395 per nite I wouldn't like looking at being boxed in by buildings and looking at walls or strait into other rental units.Still wish him luck with endeavors for restoration of AS.

One of the first things I noticed in the first photo (the bigger version available through the link), is the New Mexico RV license plate attached to the front of the platform in the first photo. It does make me wonder if any of those Airstreams were last licensed here.

I am slightly horrified to read that this clown paid $70k per trailer and then completely gutted them. He may think he "rescued" them from a Santa Monica company for that price, but somebody in Santa Monica undoubtedly laughed all the way to the bank.

Too far to go to spend $395/nite and look at concrete.

Pretty cool idea and they look very creatively & nicely finished and fitted - the 395 is probably Australian dollars and if the Four Seasons or JW Marriott up the street charges 500 a night then it's all relative - location, location, location

If they came from Santa Barbara, the company they may have come from hit some legal bumps. Needless to say, a polished, rewired, plumbed and empty 22-26 footers, started at about 30k. Then they would "help" you finish them. So you know how much that could cost you.
Just renting an AS to "camp" in at the privately owned campgrounds in Santa Barbara County start at $150 p/night. Yes, quite a trend.

Looks like fun.

If he has another project coming up I'll have one he can reduce for half that price. 😉

You have to remember this isn't aimed at us cool hip airstream owners it's aimed at people who want to try something different and new. It's probably already booked with local hipsters trying to enjoy a piece of Americana.......... and what's different at looking at another trailer across from you than being at a campground or airstream gtg? Wasn't everyone just excited about a bunch of airstreams parked on a downtown street? I've had companies stick me in theme hotels before while on the road and this would be welcome over another urban loft hahaha

Looks like private party time to me. A great idea for a small corporate gathering or big league birthday party! Love that entrepreneurial spirit. No guts ..no glory! A downtown venue and no parking problem.

This is $295/nite which looking at TripAdvisor is in line with the top hotels in downtown Melbourne. Compared to rates in LA or New York, a bargain.
