I like the kid with the KOA shirt on.... How much did Airstream and KOA pay for such product placement?

I saw this today, too! Maybe it's time to go check it out and let AAA know what the competition has to offer....

Hey! That's our trailer! (And we even have Progressive Insurance, too!) The KOA thing makes since because Airstream and KOA are in kahoots ... in some places, notably, Las Vegas, you can rent and stay in a stationery Airstream at the KOA... I agree, though, great product placement!

I like that. They even use the word 'Airstream' in the dialog.

I heard them say "Airstream," causing me to look up from what I was doing, just in time to see some shiny aluminum lurking in the background!

I just saw this Progressive commercial today in upstate NY. I have my 1978 Excella insured with Progressive for an agreed on price of $18,000. I had to get it appraised by a reputable appraiser, Bates RV, and supplied the appraisal to Progressive. Fortunately I have not had to use the insurance but it is nice to know I have the coverage. It costs me $386/yr. Here is a picture of our unit.

I have our 78 31' Sovereign insured with Shelter Insurance. $78 a year for full coverage and $10,000 value. 250 deductible.

I've got everything insured with Shelter so maybe I'm getting a price break.

Jim.

There really is no such thing, as "full" coverage.

Read the policy for exclusions, exceptions, deductibles for collision as well as comprehensive losses.

Also, what does is possibly say about depreciation, as an example of the sheet metal, that some companies claim has a "life", or the appliances, such as the AC?

Does it also cover liability?

Is the policy a "stated value" or a ACV, actual cash value? There is a huge difference.

Lastly, can you take your Airstream to a dealer of your choice, or their choice?

If your policy has no glitches, then you have a heck of a deal.

The old Caravanner Insurance company policy cost $2.05 per one hundred dollars, with a $100.00 deductible for collision, $50.00 deductible for comprehensive, and limited liability, but that was 40 years ago. And by far, was the cheapest.

Wondering if you'd share what the appraisal at Bates RV cost you? I'd love to know so I could insure my '89 345LE for what it's actually worth, not the 'low-ball' figure that most insurance companies insist on using.
Thanks, Derek

You can tremendsously help a good appraiser, by having repair orders, bills for upgrades etc, handy for their review.

The question always is "what have you done to increase the coaches value, above published books".

If an appraiser doesn't ask that, then I would suggest, look for one that does.

Rarely, will an appraiser know what the original equipment was, let alone what have you upgraded, or replaced.

A well knowledged Airstream dealer can help, but only if they take the time to personally examine your coach.

Verbal examinations, can always be kicked to the curb, since the coach was not visually examined.

Andy

Crazeevw,
Bates RV didn't charge me for the appraisal. I took it to them for them to inspect.

An Airstream dealer will have a good handle on the value of your unit based on what upgrades and replacements you have done. Polishing mine made a big difference. (I did it myself).

Since I had the appraisal, I have replaced the fans with Fantastic Fans, replaced the refrigerator with the Dometic 2820, put down laminate flooring, installed Ambruso drapery, had the L-shaped lounge professionally reupholstered and made other minor appointment changes. See Our Trailer on my website.

I replace the tires every 5 years regardless of wear and repack the bearings every couple years.

Based on some of the asking prices I have seen for vintage Airstreams, I should probably increase my coverage. Obviously I couldn't replace my unit for the coverage I have now but should worse come to worse, it is better than the NADA Bluebook.
