Can I suggest they're related, but not causal?
Quality is a cultural strategic decision. It really is possible for a company to experience *profitable* growth, not just growth.
With admittedly not enough knowledge of the situation to speak with authority - I can only say that Airstream's QC challenges don't seem to me to be caused by their growth in number of units produced. They've achieved that growth through terrific marketing and resting on brand laurels as the whole market of RVs has risen. Enough of their units meet the quality expectations of a large enough percentage of their buyers so there is no sense of urgency to overhaul the culture.
But clearly - with the Basecamp intro being less than stellar to say the least - they have an opportunity to have a pride wakeup call. Mistakes happen - I get it - but some of the stuff we see here is really inexcusable and just wouldn't be an issue with a different level of commitment to the thought process.
