Airstream expanding AGAIN?

I just read a press release saying Airstream needs more employees and is looking to expand again. Sure seems times are good in Jackson Center!

I just hope that when things slow down, the company responds appropriately and without harm.

I just feel like we we all had Airstreams before they were cool to have!

We were up there last June and took the tour. They said they were adding another assembly line because of the increased demand. All the baby boomers are retiring and I guess, like us, that silver trailer has been in people's retirement dreams for a long time.

I just wish they'd pay more attention to quality. It's not that hard to do. At the tour we saw a lot of 'Made in America' T-shirts and signs. Well, take pride in your work then. When the oven door opens it shouldn't strike the storage door below it. When the pantry slides it shouldn't go from the right side to the left side and strike the opening. You shouldn't have to slam a door to get it to close, a 2 stage converter isn't good enough for a quality trailer. These are simple things to correct or things that could drive customers to some other brands. That's what happened in the 70s when Detroit didn't seem to care and lost a lot of market share.

I wonder where all the employees live. Jackson Center seems a tiny town on Google maps and no evidence of any new homes being built. Not much showing up on Zillow.

It would appear many retiring boomers do not want to live in a gated community and play golf.

Sunlife has picked up on this. Check out this video (and the Airstream)....

Could it be the NEW trailer they are going to build that will cost LESS?

Thought the expansion plan was to go from 50 to 100 units. Pat

Sidney, Wapakoneta, etc., are within easy commute distance.

Maybe they should hire some retired Airstream workers to workkamp and provide quality control from the prospective of owners.

Indian Lake isn't far. There is some nice lake front property there.

Dos any one have any factual knowledge of the pay scales for Airstream employees?

I just received my issue of AIRSTREAM LIFE. There is an article titled "AIRSTREAM'S FIBERGLASS COUSINS". There are a number of Vintage units and than the final one:THE OLIVER LEGACY ELITE II. Hummmmm??????? Is there a message there?

If they add the other 150 employees they are chatting about, over half the workforce will be "new" in less than a year. Perhaps in a couple years they might actually work as a team and get the quality act together, or else QC just gets worse, the bubble bursts and folks acquire other brands with lots more bang for the buck and forget the hassle.

Or they may continue to build Airstreams like our last two, virtually defect free from the factory and all "cheap" systems operating perfectly after 4 1/2 years, extensive travel, and 1,100 nights camping.
