We are going to have our Airstreams in the Biloxi, Mississippi Boat & RV show next month. We wanted to be in the New Orleans RV show later in Febuary because there are no Airstrean dealers in Louisiana and we are only 75 miles away, but their state laws will not allow out-of-state dealers. So, there are many reasons why Airstreams may not be in the local RV show.

Well, we just returned from the show and overall we had a good time. There were many white boxes from several dealerships but alas no Airstreams. I understand that when we pull our Airstreams out each season, we advertise indirectly BUT the number one thing I hear people say about my airstream is "do they still make those campers?". Obviously, a little more advertising would not hurt. And one more thing, with the closest Airstream dealership in St.Louis(5hour drive)how many people in my general area would have any access or exposure to Airstream. Just a thought....

I was on my way to work traveling through the airport and while going through security there was a gang of security agents standing at the end of the x-ray machines holding my laptop. I didnt know why they were all looking at it then they asked me "Mr. is this your laptop"....Yes Why? "Do they still make Airstream camping trailers?" They were all looking at the collection of Airstream stickers I have on the outside of my laptop....
They were floored when I said "Well sure they still make them, you can buy them brand new" They were in such shock! I couldnt believe that they didnt know you could still buy them new.
I thought everyone knew they still made Airstreams new!

Good thing you didn't try to sneak an Airstream through security...

When a dealer can have one Airstream or several other brands in inventory and for shows, it is easy to see just why we have to seek out the AS to even look at. For us, it was a learning excperience with the other brands and well worth the wait for our AS ... even with below freezing temps and snow!

No question that Bill Thomas RV was the class act at Kansas City's RV show this weekend. We want to thank them for putting up with thousands of gawkers. Hope they sold some Airstreams for all of their effort. We were very proud of our brand in the middle of hundreds of 15,000-pound 5th wheels, $250,000 gasser motorhomes and cheap trailers, many with those fake fireplaces. We went to the show hoping to find quality RV accessories. But no luck. Instead of quality RV accessories, they had vinyl siding, Ginsu knives and carnival stuff. $10 to park and $20 to see the show and we left wanting to wash our hands. We love our Airstream.

Like it or not, Airstream is a niche market, and it is understandable to me that a dealer would not want to spend big bucks for a show where 99% of the attendees are are only interested in the big white boxes. We were interested only in Airstreams before attending the local show, We were happy to see that our regional Airstream dealer did have a few units at the show, and walking thru one of those units, and talking to the couple who actually bought that very unit at the show, cemented our decision to buy. But we had already decided it's Airstream or nothing.

So, if I were an Airstream dealer, i'd think twice before committing to a show as well. But it would be nice if corporate would do promotion to reach those who might be interested, if only they knew that "wow they still make those!"

If only Airstream could make one ad on Superbowl Sunday, showing an Airstream and "we still make them" as the line at the bottom.... wow, would there be some responses.

I was struck by the same thing at the Fort Worth show... I'm not in the market for a new RV, but thought there'd probably be exhibitors of accessories besides what's sold at Camping World. There were only a couple of vendors with any sort of RV equipment (portable satellite dishes, etc.) The rest of the non-RV vendors were selling "carnival crap" as you succinctly put it. At least it was close to the house and only cost me $7 and some time. There WERE 3 Airstreams there, and I got to have some fun with that. A man and woman were disagreeing about whether they're durable... she was VERY skeptical about it. I said "We camp in our '75 all the time, and I have friends with older ones." He grinned and she looked shocked and said I must spend a fortune on maintenance, to which I could truthfully say "No more than any other travel trailer." (Mind you, we weren't talking about the initial price of the Airstream!)

We first saw an Airstream from the inside at a small RV show in Santa Barbara. We went to the show more by accident than anything else. Saw some really nice Bambi interiors. Bought a 23FB 2-3 years later from the same dealer. I don't think we would have ended up with an airstream if we hadn't been impressed at that show.

We became interested after seeing Airstreams at the Florida super show in Tampa. At the time we thought we wanted a motor home. Unfortunately for the dealer we bought a used trailer from an individual.

This year Bates brought several new Airstreams to the Fort Myers show. There were quite a few people looking at the Airstreams. I heard positive concepts about the designs from people looking.

None of the Airstreams had sold stickers on Saturday. I did see quite a few Class A motor homes, 5th wheels and SOB trailers with sold signs at the show.
