Thanks for the info on battery uses, now which kind of battery should I install for trailer it seems the other one will not hold a charge and I want to make sure to get the right one. Any advise?

Trojan!

If your battery tray can hold it, I would recommend a Trojan 31XHS or 30XHS, (13"L X 6.75"W x 9.5"H). This will give you maximum capacity for this size battery at 130 AH. Trojan also has the group 27, 27TMH at 115 AH. A group 24, 24TMX is 85 AH.

I just bought a 30XHS from a local battery shop for $89.95.

There are other fine battery brands out there. I also have a group 27 Exide combo battery (Starting and Deep Cycle) that has a rating of 95 AH. This battery is has served me well and has allowed us to boondock in the summer for two days before needing a recharge. I can run the furnace for 1 night, in colder weather and still have just a little reserve left over.

I'll have to defer to the vintage Airstream guys as to what will fit, but if you intend to "boondock" i.e. camp without electrical hookups, I buy TWO of the largest batteries that will fit. Group 31 12 volt batteries are only 1/4" longer than the Group 27 that fit most compartments. Two in parallel give 260AH.

If the compartment is tall enough, two T-105 golf cart batteries will be a little cheaper, and give more discharge cycles (i.e. longer life) at the same discharge depth.

BWJ,
Do you have the two battery compartments mounted in the front of the trailer on either side of the propane tanks? Those on my '77 Excella 500 would not allow a Duralast deep cycle Grp. 27 battery to fit because they were about 1/8-1/4 too long. A Delco Voyager grp. 27 105 amp hr. battery fits just right if you are looking for a maintenance free battery. As mentioned earlier, if the Trojan grp 27 deep cycle with the 115 amp. hr. rating fits in the boxes (assuming you have 2) then I would go with them.
