Propane Bottle Cover

The original cover on my trailer disintigrated and was replaced under warrenty. The old cover was kind of an off-white color and was sewed with thread about as thick as a hair. When it decided to let go, seams split everywhere.

My new cover came today. It is silver color and is sewed with a sturdy looking thread. The zipper itself is definitely larger than the last one. I have some assurance that this one just may last a while.

John,

Do you have a picture of the new cover?

I'd be curious if I could order one.

Thanks.

No photos

The cover is laying on the floor by my desk. I just dropped the trailer at the storage yard an hour ago on the way back from a short trip and the box was on the front porch when I got here.

I doubt that a photo would show much. It looks just like the old one except for more of an match to the aluminum skin. The important difference is the use of a larger zipper and heavier thread.

Problems

I put on the new cover today and found two minor problems.

1. I need to hacksaw off the threaded rod which sticks out the bottom where the strap goes. With the strap routed around the rod, the cover is too tight.

2. I want to reroute the rubber propane hose through the hole in the pan the tanks sit in because it interferes with the cover as it is currently routed outside the pan.

When I get these two items done, the cover should fit quite well; as it is, it is way too tight. The new cover is worlds better constructed than was the original cover.

Fabric cover?

John,
I was not aware that A/S was using fabric tank covers. My '02 Bambi LS came with a aluminum rectangular cover (same as used on Classics).

Tank covers

The Internationals use a fabric tank cover. Probably because of the way the tanks and battery is located on the tongue. On mine, a hard cover would definitely interfere with the equalizer chain hooks.

I have been thinking of making a mold and casting a fiberglass shroud that would cover the battery and bottles. Kind of like the streamlined shroud on the tongue of some Limiteds, but bigger. I would hinge it in front of the battery and use the tank holddown to attach it in the rear. I have observed similar covers on some SOBs.
