CB Question

Hello All,
I have put a CB Radio in my M/H and attatched it to the antenna wire that was already there and am hardly getting any reception and sometimes none. I have heard something about adjusting SWR's to get better reception but don't have a clue as how to do this, do you need a meter and so on. Any info. would be appreciated.

Scott,
I bought a new antenna. Fixed all my problems.
The off the shelf type fit mine, I just had to shorten it.

You really do need to check the SWR. Places like Radio Shack (You got questions - we got dumb looks!) will have one.

Bad deal here is that if you transmit with a seriously mis-adjusted antenna, you can burn out the output transistors in your radio.

Thanks Peter, Think I'll try this first as my antenna is a little weathered and could be the problem.

I'll also head to Radio Shack as if they don't see enough of me anyway and think your suggestion is correct, better to be safe than sorry as this is a new cobra radio. Appreciate the input on this awesome forum.

CB Raido

I think you said that you have a Cobra. Some cobra radios have a built in SWR meater like the Cobra 29ltd. If this is the case you will see a switch that has SWR and Calibrate on it . Put the switch on Calibrate and turn the calibrate knob untill the meater line sets to the Cal. line in the SWR meater. After you have calibrated it switch the switch from Calb. to swr and then key your mike. This reading should be below 1.5 The best channel to check swr is 20. If you don't have a meater you will have to buy one and put in between the raido and coax to the antenna. It will adjust in the same manner. To adjust the swr on your antenna you will eather have to cut some off and check it each time you make a cut. make sure you don' cut off to much at one time. some antenna have a screw you can losen and slide the antenna up or down to fine tune your swr. I hope this helps you.
