Origional TV antenna, any value?
I just installed a new 'bat wing' on the 'ol girl. the original looks fine but was just bound up with age and oxidation I guess. I saved the old one in case there is a "purist" out there that would want it. Is this something that is desirable to anyone? I'm a newbie and have no idea. I would post to 'classifieds' but I have no clue to a value (if any). Can you help?
Thanks,
Matt

I say post it in the classified's. Don't ask too much or you'll be stuck with it forever. I once had a dinette set sitting in my garage for 3 1/2 years. No one would buy it, I guess because shipping it would have cost an arm and a leg. Once I posted it "for free" someone came and picked it up. Good luck.

I'm guessing that the real problem was the electrical connection to the cable or twin lead.

Those work great and parts are readily available. I'm sure someone will want it.

No, my issue was the mechanism was jammed. Coaxial could be bad, I just don't know... I'm in 'renovation' mode and have not gotten to the "install T.V." stage so I don't know if the cable was good or not (so I replaced in anyway!). It functions fine now, I guess it was just idle too long and didn't want to budge. Problem solved and now a vintage antenna is on the market!

Found the person in need of the antenna and he was in England. Shipping took some work but it will be part of a true 'original' A.S. in the UK. Not easy to pull off... very admirable, I look forward to pics.

Good for you.
Those antennas work great. I'm sure they will be pleased.

In reply to CaptMatt's post of almost a year ago:
How did you install the new coaxial cable? Is it possible to use the old as a pull wire to pull in the new?
I have a 29' Sovereign the same year as your 31', and am replacing the TV antenna with a Ham radio 144/440 antenna. The new antenna uses 50 ohm coax which is slightly smaller than the existing 75 ohm TV coax.
The TV antenna is available if anyone wants it. Just take it away.

Hi jealtstatt. Welcome to the forum. I installed a 2 meter antenna on my '81 Excella, attached it to the refrigerater vent, ran the 50 ohm line down the vent, out the wall to my rig in the living area. When I sold the Excella, it was an easy remove.

BTW the original antenna made it all the way to the UK. A gent' there was keeping it as original as possible. Great story of how it made the journey, basically he covered my shipping costs and his family filled in the gaps. I hope to see a photo some day. (And I complain about a leaking holding tank... I need to just calm down here.)
