1986 29' Sovereign Wheel & Tire size options

I just purchased a 1986 and have the dealer looking it over. The Chinese tires are checked and need to be replaced. I read the numerous threads and found much said about sticking with the 15" ST tires and others recommending the 16" LT tires. Questions:
1) For anyone who has the 29' Sovereign, have you put in the larger 16" wheel (say a 225 75R 16) and does it clear the wheel well?
2) What wheel offset and bolt pattern is required?
3) I like a more retro wheel like the American Racing Outlaw II or like the aluminum original mag. Any inexpensive options like those you would recommend?
4) Does it really matter if you go to the light truck or ST Trailering types. I expect to put on only 4000 miles / year. I worry more about aging than mileage.

Thanks for posting this... more thanks for a reply!
This was JUST what I was wondering. I will have to do new axles in the relatively near future so why not the tires & rims?

Scott, I was given the same advice about LT 16" tires & rims. besides the choice of rims is so much better...

Specifications for truck and trailer wheels are different. Just my opinion, but I would NOT put truck wheels on a trailer.

Specs for 16-inch REPLACEMENT wheels for most late model Airstreams that came from the factory with Goodyear Marathon, 225/75x15, load range D tires:

Wheel size: 16x6
Bolt Circle: 6x139.7 (same as 6x5.5)
Offset: 0 (zero)
Center Bore: 4.25
Load Rating: 3,200

Great Tire and Rim Choice, Michelin 16" LTX & Sendel

Mounted the (4) Michelin LTX 225 75R/16 with Sendel T03-66655T rims. They fit and look great just like the ones purchased thru Airstream.

Trailered from Minnesota to Yellowstone / Tetons & back. They worked great. Perfect combination. My only complaint is the lug bolts required to mount them. Chrome would be so much better.
