What do I have ?
This may seem like a dumb question, but I am serious. I have purchased an Airstream in a neighboring state. I have not picked it up yet. I am told that it is a 1987 Airstream Excella 34 foot. However, it has only 2 axles. A friend told me that if it has only 2 axles it must be a 32 foot. Which is correct? Also, if anyone has a brochure for the 1987 Airstream, I would really appreciate a copy of it. Thanks to all who reply!

All 34 foot Airstreams have 3 axles..If it has 2 axles it is not a 34 foot and could even be a 25 or 27 foot.

Here's another document that may help: Airstream VIN info.
I think they were using this format consistently by the late 80s, so the 7th position of your trailer's VIN should tell you the length (bumper to hitch) of the trailer within a foot or so. According to the '87 brochure page that's on Airstream's site (that perryg114 linked to above) Excellas came in 31 or 32 feet (all with side batch) or in 34', but all 34's are triple-axle.
If it were shorter than 31 feet it would be a Sovereign rather than an Excella. (Assuming Airstream's brochure is right, of course.)

I've seen one or two examples of modified Airstreams that were extended to 34' and still had twin axles. They both seemed to be done very well but gee thats a long trailer for only 4 tires!

Looks like I have a 32 foot afterall. If anyone has an owners manual which they could scan and send to me by email I surely would appreciate it.

What do I have? I know it's awesome.
Hey all, I am in same boat here. I just bought an awesome airstream yesterday. It has been sitting in a farmers field on the Wyoming/Nebraska border for 15 years. Not sure what it is. Here is the pic of the plate, but these numbers don't seem to line up with the vin info I find. I know it's an international, I know it's a rear bath, 23 feetish, and I know it needs a lot of work. Any help would be a big help!

Overlander
Modman, Just to the right of the serial number info plate I think I see the script of an "O" for the lead edge of the word Overlander. On the serial plate area I cannot make out the first figure but if it is an I it stands for the International trim package, the 26 is the length, the 7 is for 1967, the S for Santa Fe Springs, Ca., 316 must have to do with the bed and bath layout, and 2057 is the production number for your trailer from the plant. It looks like what you have there is a 1967 Overlander International built in California. It's considered 26' because Airstreams are measured from bumper-to-hitch, not just the length of the living space. The VIN is a little odd because it doesn't seem to indicate whether the trailer was built with twin beds or a folding double. Between "I26" and "7S" I would expect to see a T or a D.
