Excella 1000 vs 500

We are looking at a 1988 excella 1000 triple axle. Is the 1000 just a new name for the 500, and what is the difference between an excella vs a 1000? Any advice on problem areas on this camper? Thx MM

Both trailers were originally 31'. The original concept was the 500 was limited to 500 units, and the 1000 was limited to 1000 units. Production numbers never reached those figures, and the numbers morphed into a trim and amenity level. Length has never really been a factor.

We have a 1987 dual axle Excella 1000 that Airstream calls a 32in the brochure.

Not certain but those year models may have the flakeboard floors, and getting them wet (when a plastic water fitting starts leaking) is quick destruction of your floor. My '92 1000 has the flakeboard and a city water inlet that started leaking between the skins soaked and destroyed the floor in my roadside storage compartment.

The rear plate in front of the bumper is another common problem. It funnels water under the floor and rots the floor and frame. It is a common cause of rear end separation. If you have a rear bedroom model raise the beds and pull up any carpet or flooring and see if the floor is rotten. Mine looked fine till I got it home and pulled up the carpet under the beds. I ended up replacing the last 4 foot of floor. It was not fun.

What is the price range on an 88 Excella 500 in as found condition? No major obvious problems except the fridge is leaking amonia. It's in an RV lot in NM. I don't know any other history.
