Dometic Water Heater Igniter Board

After 29 years of happy heating, our original 6 gal Dometic unit bit the dust. We replaced with the AS recommended unit, a Dometic G6A-8E-SP. Only problem is the igniter board failed after less than 1 month. Good news is it's covered under warranty and the folks at Dometic have been easy to deal with. The failed board has a Zhongding sticker on it. The word is these boards have been problematic from the gitgo. Anyone have intel on this? I'd like to repair the bad board and keep it as a spare, unless the failure is a result of a bad design.

The current wisdom seems to be install a Dinosaure brand ignitor board and keep the warranty board as a backup. By all reports the Dinosaure boards are bulletproof where as even the replacement warranty boards seem to have a high failure rate.

Look on ebay for a new Dinosaur UIB64 (universal ignition board). FYI, going to a dealer means that they only get 1/2 hour from Dometic to do the repair - that does not include the time to diagnose over the phone with Dometic to have them agree to send a replacement board. You will end up with haing to pay 1 hour of labor anyhow, so you might as well get the board and DIY. Make sure your HW heater switch is OFF when you swap the boards.

There have been many posts on failed boards like yours. Using the new search function above in the blue box, which works great, here are some other threads/posts to check about getting a Dinosaur board:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Dino...=airforums.com

. . . notably these:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f295...er-179320.html
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f445...rd-185566.html

You could also peruse the list of topics in the Water Heaters etc. sub-forum:

Good luck,

Peter

A good graphic artist could make some real coin coming up with a sticker showing a broken Dometic circuit board, or one getting eaten by a dinosaur. Airstream could give one with each new trailer.

Gas heater boards

I would not use anything but a Dianasor board. Thry are bullet proof - not to say that they cannot fail, but if they do there is a no question replacement. I did have a failure with one and called Dianasor and they talked me throug the diagnostic process and detemined it was a failure and had a replacement shipped immediatly. Also, thier refrigerator boards are equally as dependable and with the same support.

Thanks for your advice. Troubling that the replacement board may fail as well. I would be more concerned if Dometic sent another Zhongding board, but the new one is totally different.
