Water tank drain

I'm having trouble locating the water tank drain plug (or is it a valve?) on my 78 Excella TT. What does it look like and where do I access it from. Owners manual and service manual aren't clear in describing it.

The tank drains are usally a red hose bib type handle that is connected to a brass valve. In your model you should have a black hose poking thru the belly pan in the middle of the trailer. Above this hose there will be a valve handle. This will often be under a kitchen cabinet poking thru the floor. Open it up without the pump on and water in the tank and you should get water out of the drain tube. I suggest if you find more than 1 valve you open them one at a time so you know what is what.

My 1977 International did not have a drain valve for the fresh water tank. Instead it had a drain plug. This was accessible via an inspection plate in the belly skin right under the tank. It was about 6 inches square with 4 sheet metal screws holding it in place. When this is removed it reveals a large plastic drain plug that can be unscrewed. Once you drain the tank and get ready to put the plug back, use some plumber's teflon tape to prevent drips.

We have 1978 Excella 500, rear bath and it has no drain for the water tank, only way to empty is to pump it out, my only dislike with the trailer

My Excella owners manual talks about a water tank drain, just doesn't tell where it is. Are you sure there isn't one?

Just checked my 1978 Excella 500 Owners Manual for winterizing and step 4 instructs me to turn the water pump switch to the ON position to expel water from the storage tank. We use this tank a good bit and this is a pain, it is tight underneath but I brlieve it would be possible to make a drain, think I will try this winter

You might want to be sure you don't have a drain plug as described in my post above. It should be easy to see from the underneath side of the trailer. It sure would save a lot of work for you. My trailer was not an excello so it could be different.

Just checked my Excella 500 owners manual. Check out page 68 when you have a chance (water system section) where the "drain valve locations" diagram is. The diagram shows a drain valve labeled water tank. So I'd be surprised if it doesn't have one. I'm going to check out James advice and will let you know what I find.
