Skin Repair or Replace?

I have a dent on my lower entrance door below my Excella stripe (curbside) which extends several inches to the panel rear of the door next to and above the furnace vent. I talked to a service center nearby who said they would overlay the lower door panel and replace the entire lower curbside panel.

I would like to repair this so I can polish the skin but I don't want leaks.

I have even considered installing a small dummy door covering the furnace exaust dent.

How is the best way to fix this? Will the little dings and dents be very obvious once polished?

My observation is that when things are made shiny, ALL flaws become HUGELY obvious. Think of that '56 T-bird, '48 Lincoln, ( or your favorite vehicle)!

ALL blemishes become more pronounced with a high gloss surface. It has to be PERFECT to be perfect!

I saw this more than a lot when I did the show circuit with a '62 Lincoln I used to own in a previous lifetime. There were lots of cars and owners! that would have been a lot better off with original condition finishes.

Have you ever seen that episode of "Antiques Roadshow" where the guy says - 'if this had the original finish/ patina, then it would be worth...."???

Just remember that this opinion is worth EXACTLY what you paid for it.
