Shore water reel?
I'm in the middle of a floor repair in the back bedroom of my 78 Excella. Some PO had removed the reel for the shore water hook up. My service manual showes nothing on this. The electric reel is there and working well and I was wondering if the water reel was of similar design, any pic's or drawings would be great, thanks in advance.

Woody! Sorry 'Holz'....
Holz...
Don't think that ANY AS's came with a water hose reel - at least I don't think so.
Do you mean a reel like a hose reel on the side of a house where the water hose ( attached to the inside water system) actually rolls up onto?? If so, I KNOW those things don't work worth a da*m on my house and would REALLY hate to have to use one on my AS. Can you say leaks and water damage!?
Just get yourself a hose from CW (white with a blue stripe) and keep it in an outside storage bin on your unit. That is wha I do - I keep the male and female ends mated in the bin. Keeps it neat and tidy + NO leaks.
Also, get yourself a brass pressure regulator and a Y connector (with shut offs) if you don't have them yet. Put the Y on the hose bib - one side city/trailer water - other side is for the yuck hose flush. A "flush-king" (it came highly recommended by forum member 'Coriolis') is also a 'must have' for getting the icky stuff out of your BT - lets you see what you need to get out of the trailer!!! Or rather see when you have all the 'yuck' out of it since you can see when it flushes clean. REAL important.
Anyway, not to go on (I did - I know!) but just a few thoughts. Sorry if I gave you more than you asked for.
See ya out there!

Whoa
Eh, hem.....
(maybe "ANY" is a typo ) MANY airstreams came with water hose reels.
Especially the Limiteds, some Excellas and alot of motor homes.
I have one on my Classic and I have seen them on many other Airstreams.
A replacement is expensive in my eyes. It is a shame that you cannot use a typical reel from Harbor Freight or something. They are too large for the space.
I believe if you search the forum, you can find some resources for replacement reels.

My apologies!
Smily and Holz -
Sorry - I was in error.
Guess I need to let others that know a LOT more, answer questions before I jump in....
I'll learn! At least I promise to try....
Ciao

OK, well its good to know that there was or is such an animal.
Smily, that link that you posted did not work for me, do you have any others?
I currently use the standard water hose, two of them, one 10' and one 30', since space is at a premium I would like to see what this hose reel looks like and find one if possible. I use a spliter at the camp water source so if possible there is water available outside the camper to wash or hose thinks of. There are 2 pre teens with us, do I need to say more?
Keep it coming, I hope to have the unit rolling again by mid april, the camping fever got me bad again, it is that time of the year.

Here 'ya go.
Sorry about the quality - PM me if you need a better pic - I'll e-mail you direct. Picture is out of a '78 Excella Service Manual.
Unfortunately, this is about all of the info they give on it.

I have the hose and electric cord reel in my 78. I had to replace the contacts in the electric cord reel. Aero Motive was most helpful. The contacts were out of production but they tooled up and sent me the three I needed for $120.
Give them a call to see if they have a replacement for the hose reel.
Perhaps ZOOMZOOM can give you the model number of the hose reel. It is obscured by the camera flash.
Their address is:
AERO-MOTIVE COMPANY INC.

I have one like Zoom Zoom in my 79' Excella. I had to take it out since it had sprang a leak where the city water hose would connect. I took it apart to see if I could repair it..a little bit complicated inside. Still waiting on sending it to the shop.

I had them in my '77 Excella 500. No problem with the electrical reel but did develop a leak in the water reel. Coming off the side of the reel there is a 90 degree turn toward the center of the trailer. It takes another 90 degree turn toward the rear of the trailer about 10" from the first 90 degree turn. This second turn was a low area in the line which trapped water on my way back from AZ. to TN. I hit some freezing weather in NM and this was probably when it froze and broke the 90 degree elbow.

I have nothing useful to add to the information about the hose reels, but perhaps our space-saving solution will help someone bridge those times when the reel breaks. We actually use only this this method for our water hookups.
Camping World sells a 10 foot "utility hose" ($9.99) made by Handi-Hose which collapses completely flat. Collapsed, they can be stored in very little space. We carry about 5 at a time, each equipped with quick disconnect fittings. Snap them together and you can make up any hose length you like. Unsnap them, hold them up by the middle, and they drain easily because they now only hang down 5 feet. If one section springs a leak, throw it away and keep the rest. We first discovered this method with a VW camper, but our Bambi has little extra storage space so we have continued to use these hoses.

345 hose tension issue
My 1985 345 has the two reels in the lower compartment. The tension on the return for the hose only will retract it the first 6' if it's pulled all the way out. It doesn't leak. Is there anyway to adjust the spring tension on the reel without removing the whole thing from the rig ? How much trouble is it to remove and does the electric rell have to come out too ? ?
