I use trailer and Airstream interchangeably. However, after reading through the thread and discovering that referring to my Airstream as an Airstream around non-Airstreamers may be perceived as snooty, I will consider amending my ways and be a bit more considerate.

heh.

I love it!

Well, we call ours by its name, "Tardis", or "Bambi" and we go camping! But when we talk about it to others it is Airstream!

i tend to use the term 'coach' for rvs on a motorized frame/chassis, but they are still campers and rvs too.

ya know even among airstreamers we tend to use different terms for the itsy bitsy ones than for the looooooonger ones...so go figure.

my friends who don't do this sort of camping used to try to annoy me by refering to the airstream as a "mobile home", as in "are you going to bring the mobile home camping this week?" or "did you take the mobile home to the beach?"

25 years ago this bothered me but no longer...i found self deprication took the fun out for others, so i know when to throw in a few trailer trash terms to my advantage.

besides mobile has risen in stature as a term...mobile office, mobile phone, mobile conferencing, mobile satellite and so on.

while i still prefer just saying it's an airstream, look at all the other terms we've amassed for humor and affection...like tin hut, twinkie and on and on.

it's time to take the aircraft alloy semi monocoque torsen suspended solar powered self contained habitat for a camping trip!

cheers

OK 2air, that last line made me laugh out loud! Well done. Your style is unique and I take my hat off to you!

I call the big "trailer" The Airstream and the little one the Argosy. My very best friend told me she couldn't understand why I loved these things because they are so funny looking. They're all round and silver with no outside designs. Beauty and names are certainly in the eye of the beholder. I can't help going out and looking at my "trailers" and feeling good. Sounds like 2air may be one of the "Coneheads" from France. (Anyone who saw the movie will understand)

Screening your new neighbors. I like that. They failed the test and didn't even know they had been given one.w)

Karen refers to the Minuet, currently named Hedwig as IBDY (I'-bi-dee) for "Itty Bitty Dirt Yacht". A name given it by a member of the Casita Club. I had asked if we were still welcome to come visit now that we owned an Airstream product and he said, "We don't care what kind of itty bitty dirt yacht you drive, you are always welcome here." Good folks are everywhere.

For me-
"Travel Trailer" has always been associated with a SOB
"Trailer" is something for hauling various items, tractors, lumber...OR a non-mobile inexpensive alternate to living in an apartment
"Coach" is a Motorhome I can never afford
"RV" and "Motorhome" are the same thing
"Camper" is anything except a coach or a tent, during a camping outing

My 29' aluminum towable facility for enjoying outdoor recreation is my "Airstream"

I use a cone filter. Does this make me a bad person?

I refer to my Airstream as just that, "my Airstream". I've also been known to refer to it as "the Tradewind".

I have tough skin and could care less what anyone calls it. I call it whatever comes to mind at the moment as I haven't had it long enough to have a word association imprinted in my mind. It might one day be given a name that sticks, who knows.

Don't forget that Ricky told Lucy that "rig" was the proper term.

I just use the term trailer. I have never liked the term camper because it sounds cheap.
The term "travel trailer " seems like something high end on the spectrum. An RV is like a class A or C moho and coach is an expensive class A bus type conversion.

The "sounds cheap" part is like calling a woman either: skinny, thin, or svelt! It is all semantics!

The "expensive class A bus type conversion".... we all know "expensive" doesn't always mean good taste! (that just might be opinion as well!)
