Looking to Purchase 1978 Excella 500

We're interested in purchasing a 1978 Excella 500. Any Pros or Cons you can offer to help us in our decision? Any suggestions of what to watch out for? Any known potential problems for that year & model, i.e. electrical, plumbing, etc? Is there a place we can compare prices?

Any good reading resources? Any good resources for photos to compare condition?

We don't want to do a bunch of restoration so we are looking for good to excellent condition. We would use it once or twice a year at first, then in a few years go on the road...maybe for the long haul?

Any suggestions or information would be appreciated.

I have a 78 Excella 500. As far as I'm concerned there aren't any pitfalls specific to this this model, just the normal things to consider.

Just curious - why have you set your sights on this specific year and model?

What are the "normal things to consider"?

We aren't stuck on this specific model/year. Someone offered us one in a "trade" and we were trying to get information on the Pro's & Con's. We've always wanted an A/S. We like the older models best. The modern models have more improvments with time, we're not set on this one-

We're still researching at this point, this site has a wealth of information. We didn't realize so many people were really serious about their Airstreams!

Have 78 Excella 500, rear bath, needs few small repairs, but has all options. New water heater, carpet - we're second owners, includes all factory paperwork, even sales brochures. see pictures at timthemechanic.com Has awnings, air, safety deposit box - any available option available in 1978.
