We just bought a 1981 27' (?) Excella and we would like to have someone go through and tell us what needs to be done. Can anyone recommend a trustful/knowledgible place in Southern California? We live in San Marcos, but would be will to go 100 miles or so to get some honest answers.

Airstream has it's list of authorized dealers available.
The key to repairs on Airstream products is using original parts. Non dealers cannot purchase parts from Airstream, but must buy them from an Airstream dealer. That usually results in you paying more for the parts.

Your serial number says you have a 1982 27 foot Excella 2, rear bath twin, with a left front lounge.
I just purchased my AS from Southwest Coaches. They are right at the 405/5 interchange (the Y) off of Sand Canyon. With not a ton of experience with them as far as repairs I can tell you the dealings I have had with Dwaine (I think I spelled his name correctly), the service manager have been very good. He knows what he is talking about with any question I've thrown at him. They are number 1 in sales with AS and I don't suppose they could do that if they had a horrible repair facility. I would hope they would be better than others.
Good Luck

Hey neighbor! I'm in San Marcos, too (actually just moved to San Elijo Hills) and I gotta tell you, go with Southwest in Irvine. Great service dept with people who know Airstreams. STAY AWAY FROM REVOLUTION RV IN SANTEE!!!
Welcome to the Forums neighbor!
We live in Cardiff and when we first got our Tradewind we had no, and I mean NO, idea what we needed to do! We heard about a place in Mira Mesa, RV Specialists, that we used to go through our systems and analyze our priorities. They are not Airstream Only mechanics but they were very helpful and sensible with their recommendations. With a little time and experience under our belts, we now know that they did very well by us. We've been very happy with their work and their prices! (That's not to say that it was CHEAP but we think it was reasonable.) Good luck and hope to see you out on the road soon!
I just called CGT to ask a ton of questions. What a quality place. The guy on the phone was polite and knowledgable AND told me how to save money! A ton of money too. I don't own an Airstream yet so I was calling him about one I was considering and I told him that. Even so he gave me 20 minutes of his time and knowledge. Needless to say when the time comes they will get my business.
inland rv is the place to go straight forward and honest with as much hands on knowledge as jackson center or more also parts at reasonable , their sales (rivets, maint.supplies ect...) are often great deals last year they had a great deal on oly. rivets i got 2000 (do a lot of my own work)vulkem ect...

We took our new trailer up to Southwest for a few small things and were impressed with Dwaine and Jason too. They were able to get us in right away (local dealer had 3-4 week wait) and they took their time with us and did an excellent job on the trailer.
BTW-Why don't some of you guys head up to Vail Lake in Temecula for the Winter Rally in January. Nice group of folks and we would love to meet more of the Southern Cal Streamers.
