Vintage Look Awnings

Hi,
I just joined today. I noticed that members were looking for awnings with the vintage look. I have been making vertical striped awnings with scalloped valances for about a year now. They are the kind that slide into an awning rail and need extension tent poles, stakes and ropes, to put them up. I can offer advice to those of you who are trying to make your own awnings.KF

I would be happy to answer any questions you have about making an awning. I learned by trial and error, so I have probably had to deal with just about any problem you can come up with. Good luck and have fun. KF

Vintage awning maker

I found someone that makes vintage awnings at less than half the cost of the vintage trailer store. She uses sunbrella fabric and is very helpful. She was great to work with and helped me choose a fabric from the ones I narrowed down.

Our 17 foot awning was in the 350 dollar range. Buy your own polls.

She delivered in about 10 days.

PM me for info or I can post her email address upon request. She's okay with me posting it.

where to get poles

We bought poles from REI. But we are thinking about buying new poles from LL Bean since they are a bit taller. Our awning isn't staying quite high enough with the REI poles. Our screen door top edge is rubbing against the awning.

Of course, we're still working on perfecting the awning set-up with ropes and stakes and knots etc. We've only had the awning for one camping trip.

Awning poles and roller

We bought our awning poles from Sports Authority for under $7.00 a piece . They are extension poles from about 4- 8 feet. We also have an awning roller that installs on the top of the trailer door so it won't damage your awning. There is also one made for the screen door.I will see if I can take pictures of them for you. KF

Awning

I had a vintage style and two zip dee replacements made by a great shop. They were inexpensive, and quick and used the Sunbrella fabric of my choice.
PM me if you want their info.
They will do scalloped or fringed edges. we went for a blocked look.
