Parts & Supplies in Portland, OR

Hello--

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for favorite parts & supply stores in Portland, OR. I know about Camping World...but I have never stepped foot in a shop that caters specifically to RVs.

Right now I am looking for somewhere to buy some Vulkem caulk (before I breakdown and buy it online). Later, who knows what I'll need...so I figure it's best to get to know what stores are available to me locally.

Thanks for any help,
Adam

You might try Sutton RV in Eugene for Airstream specific parts - I've have some success there...

And a trip to camping world is always fun - be sure to pick up a copy of their full catalog when you go.

Adam,

If the local stores don't carry Vulkem, you may also look at getting Sikaflex. Although it is not Vulkem (per Tremco ), it is a good product. Welcome to the board, by the way.

I got Vulken at Home Depot, but last time I ended up getting white instead of grey. Look in places that cater to construction instead of RVs for that.

Re: Parts & Supplies in Portland, OR

Thanks for all the ideas. Next time I'm in Eugene I'll plan to make a stop at Sutton RV...if only to look at the shiny '05 & '06 airstreams.

Parkrose Hardware has Vulkem 116 in a variety of colors. It is always in stock too ! The only place I know of to get the smooth Vulkem 636 is online. The 116 is a little grainy. It worked for my needs. They also have a good variety of hardware, stuff that you wouldn't usually find at HD.

Laurelhurst Heating and Cooling - This is the place for your Heating, Cooling, oven, stove and refer parts. They also have a small selection of obsolete parts.

Curtis Trailers - I can usually find what I need there or can get pointed in the right direction. Talk to Doug in the parts dept.

Hope this helps. Chris

Feel free to ask any questions. Welcome to the board.

The RV Parts Outlet in Tualitin, OR is a good source for RV supplies at what seems like pretty good pricing. They also support internet based ordering.

https://www.rvpartsoutlet.com/newstore/nojava/index.cfm

I have found Vulkem 116 in both Home Depot and Lowes in the Portland and Beaverton area. It is indeed a bit grainy - I understand it is intended for masonry repairs where it looks more like mortar with the graininess. I believe that I read somewhere that the formulation is otherwise pretty similar to the smoother varieties of Vulkem. I have been pretty happy with it for caulking on the inside of the outer skin. I have the inner skin off and the old insulation out so I thought I would seal a few things up from the inside. I have also used some Sikaflex that I ordered online from Inland RV:

http://www.inlandrv.com/

They carry a lot of otherwise hard to find Airstream specific parts.

True Value Hardware in Beaverton on Cedar Hills Blvd. has been a good source for some odds and ends of things that can not be found at Home Depot or Lowes. W.C. Winks Hardware in downtown Portland (on the east side of the river) is the best place I have found for elevator bolts for floor repair. They have been in business for a very long time and carry a lot of hard to find hardware items. Metal Supermarkets in East Portland (on Whitaker Way) has been a reasonably good source for aluminum for repairing and replacing my banana wrap and belly pan pieces. Harbor Freight (http://harborfreight.com/) in Portland is a good place to buy reasonable quality tools of certain types. I bought my pnuematic pop rivet gun there (for less than $30) and consider it one of the best tools I have bought for working on my Airstream. A word of caution though - check out the internet prices for Harbor Freight and take a print out with you when you go. They will honor the internet price if you have the print out but the in store prices are sometimes higher.

Welcome to the forums by the way. There is a ton of useful information here.
