Less LEDs more light

Per the request of many of you, we have developed a brighter light that is smaller. This light as less LEDs but is about 1.5 times brighter.

Above is a picture of the very popular 28 flat in Bright white beside the new 18 SMD. The picture does not show it, but the 18 SMD is brighter.

Also, always remember, "9 out of 10 Women prefer Warm White over Bright White".

What type of bulb is that? Are these the screw in type that replace the 12 volt bulbs that look just regular 110 light bulbs? Not sure of what that type of bulb is called. My 62 has dual volt fixtures and many of my 12 volt ones are wanting replacement.

Frank...

We just bought some of the bulbs shown on the right from Dan ...they are the bayonet connection type that replace the incandescent 12v bulbs in the fixtures over our dinette and in the galley and bathroom. They are great. We also bought LEDs to replace the halogen bulbs in the ceiling recessed puck lights. Now we have LEDs througout the interior! (We got the bright white/cool white variety rather than the warm light, as we prefer that kind of lighting.)...TB

Sorry but LED lights just don't cut it for me. It's just such a strange light. It works in some cases but I don't like the light in the trailer. But it's nice they are getting smaller and brighter.

Yes BTRich explained it right. They are the 1156 bayonet type and not the regular 110 light screw-in type.

good info dan...

but those bright white lights give off some FUNKY looking lighting.

so EACH led used in the fixture must be "brighter" or give off MORE light, in the new option?

at some point it's gonna be useful to include lumens, power consumption and other basic specs...

i'm satisfied with the conversions made in my unit (about 1/2 of the fixtures) and KNOW the consumption is less...

but would like specs on replacement bulbs as MORE options become available.

cheers

Does anyone make a replacement for the 1143 bayonette for the spot reading lights in my '74 Sovereign?

We tried to just point out where lights went to make it simple, but have we have decided to dig up all the other specs and put them there too.

We are looking or a way to report true specs. Case is point, lets take a cluster bulbs that has 20 LEDs. Some of the LEDs are facing the inside of the light housing and thus don't put out much light to the overall output. If I report 20 times the lumens (per LED) then the overall output won't be correct. Many compaines report it this way. We are determined not report it this way. We are working on it.

Thanks for the input.

Dan

I have recently replaced ALL the inside lights with PCB style LED's. Here is the thread: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f37/...tml#post854651

I bought the warm white replacement w/ 18 LEDs from ledtrailerlights.com.

It looks identical to the cool white lamp in the picture.

I'm happy with the light quality. It isn't quite as pleasing as incandescent, but it is close and with one incandescent in the dual fixture and one LED the light levels are nearly identical. The fixtures run much cooler. In the picture all lights lit are LED.

Light quality, that is, warm white vs cool white ... and LED vs halogen ...and LED vs incandescent light quality is a matter of personal preference. Some don't care for the light from LEDs (warm or cool)...and granted, it is a different kind of light and takes a little getting used to, but after living with LEDs for a while, we actually prefer it.

When we originally started replacing our halogens (which are warm white) we chose to switch to cool white LEDs... in our unit (a Safari SE with the aluminum interior) we just like the affect better. But the real reason we switched to LEDs was not the light quality so much as the reduced power consumption...since we are doing more boon docking and dry camping these days... and it makes a huge difference...

Then there is the actual heat generated by the halogens and incandescent lights. In our 19' Bambi there are 13 ceiling lights that used to be halogens, plus 4 spot reading lights....plus 5 incandescent lights... The amount of heat they generated was astounding...with LEDs there is so much less heat for the AC to combat.

We anticipate that LED technology and pricing will improve over time, but we are glad we've made the switch... and thanks to Dan@LED4RV for his help in completing the transition...

nice pix tpi !.

looks very naturale'

i've found that SOME of the replacement leds provide LESS light that the oem bulbs...

but the solution 4me was to ADD another bulb/strip inside the fixture...

that costs more but the ILLUMINATION vs power consumption was WELL worth it.

OR use FLAT square arrays of ledz vs a round version where some of the ledz point the wRonq wAy...

here's dans other recent thread on these gizmos...
