LED upgrade for Cyclopes Scare Porch Light

We have a new "LED upgrade for Cyclopes Scare Porch Light" which is a sealed light and comes with the gasket and screws.

Goes on to many Airstream units to name here. See Pic :-)

It is a sealed light which means water tight.

It has 30 Bright white LEDs (5500K temp)

It comes with the gasket and screws. The label in the picture encourages to start all 3 screws before tightening them. Tightening one screws makes it hard to get the other two started.

Click here to see this light.

Hi Dan. How is this light different than the previous one? Is the sealed part what is new? Will this one still melt or overheat if left on?

Robert,
Thanks for asking. Yes the first generation of this light had heat concerns. The concern was, if left on the daytime, the the heat from the sun got real high it would cause the LEDs to fail. They were not a sealed light.

This second generation does not have that warning label. The LEDs are mounted on a plate that allows heat to dissipate and engineered handle that heat.

I got one of these from Dan in May. I hooked it up and left it on over 24 hours. No heat at all and it was over 90 degrees outside that weekend.
I really like it.

Hi, my new LED porch light came in a few days ago. [fast shipping] Today I had a chance to install it. The new LED light comes with a new gasket and new screws. The LED light, gasket, and screws were all a perfect fit. The new LED light is bright and after leaving it on for a few hours, there was no heat. Glad to remove my half melted porch light lense.

Our 27FB only has the light above the door. Does anyone know if this light can be added to my AS? I would love to have one of these lights so we can see while sitting under the awning at night.

Looks like a nice product. Is there a lumen number so we can compare between the OEM light and the new LED model replacement?

Good question!

For a new Truck-lite Cyclops ( that is what they call it) in our testing environment I get 1401 Lumen at 12.5 VDC ( what a fully charged 12volt battery puts out) with an 1141 bulb and it pulls 2.3 Amps.

This LED replacement is 805 lumen and pulls .21 Amps or 210mA.

A 100 watt lights put out 1600 lumen

Scott,

It shouldn't be too hard. You will probably need to fish a wire down the wall and add a switch. You may have to pull an interior panel or two to make it work, but it would be worth the trouble IMHO. We typically don't use ours for lighting under the awning. We have little hanging cow lights, and rope light on the ground around the awning mat.

Looks great. I replaced my hot 1156 bulb with one of these from superbright LEDs in March. It has 45 LEDs and is quite bright; however, I do like the idea of having the LEDs flattened out at the lens point and the fact that it is sealed. This one uses 290mA and is 210 lumens in the warm white color 3800 temp with voltage 10-30VDC @$25.

Aaron,
I would think that the pulling the door trim off and pulling lose the inside skin to fish the wire would be a good way to go about it.

We do have that light complete.

Sorry, on my first reply to your post. That went right over my head.

I melted my lens when leaving it on all night in 40 degree weather and was planning on replacing the lens. I just placed my order for one of these LED lights also.

Thanks for info!

Dan,
Is there anything special in the 'lamp base'? My socket is trashed and it would be really easy to just cut off your base, wire it in with some bullet connectors to my trailer.

There is nothing in this socket base. It could be straight wired, UN-like a lot of our other lights which have resistors and drivers in them.

I would think rebuilding the your socket might be a better way to go or replacing the whole light fixture with the LED upgrade.

Got my light last week and installed it yesterday. Very nice. It's a perfect replacement.
