If you are a non-New Jersey resident who purchased an Airstream from Colonial Airstream in Lakewood, NJ and you had any glitches in obtaining your home state permanent license plate, I would appreciate a PM telling me your story. Needless to say, I am having problems and am suspect as to whether they have even attempted to obtain my license from Maryland. Will follow up with more of my tale when (?) I get my license. Temporary expires this Tuesday, guess that trip next weekend is off....
More on Colonial Airstream to follow......
Thanks!

Not Colonial but I had problems with a title from an AZ dealer. My temp was also due to expire while I would be gone, they sent me a new temp with no problems. I would at least ask for that before cancelling a trip.
The only thing this dealer knows about service is how to say the word...
I bought my trailer on 3/31. Colonial put a 20 day tag on it. On the 15th day I called the sales manager to find out about my permanent tag. Let me just tell you, the sales manager has not personally returned a call from me since the deal was closed except for one time when I insisted that he call me. The license clerk told me that my license application was sent to Maryland on 4/12. It took them 12 days on a 20 tag to get the application for my permanent tag in. After I called on the 15th day and left a message for the sales manager, the license clerk calls and tells me they need a copy of my drivers license and my insurance card. I remind her that I just bought a brand new trailer and that I provided that information at closing. They apparently lost it. I had to provide it to them again. Remember, I had to call them to get the ball rolling. On the 16th day, the owner of Colonial calls me to tell me how important his Airstream customers are (they also sell used cars, go figure). Well, my temporary tag expired on 4/20. Have not heard from Colonial yet. Apparently the owner does not care enough about my situation to follow-up with me. Follow-up IS a part of service and other than being able to say the word.......
Please see my post on Hitches and Dealers so you can see how Colonial sent me out on the road with a potentially unsafe hitch set-up......

I am happy to report that Colonial delivered my license to my home this past Saturday. I would like to thank Colonial for not charging me for my DMV work. The money will go towards the new hitch I need to buy because the one they put on my truck results in my Bambi being pitched up in the front.
Apparently Colonial feels harrassed by my post. They have requested that it be removed. I thought this was a free forum where AS owners and those interested could benefit from the expereinces of others. I would be happy to address Colonial's concerns in this or other forum.
I am sure there are those that have had good experiences with Colonial and encourage them to post. In fact, see my pre-delivery posts where I laud the sales manager.
All the best!! Democracy IS alive!

I'm glad that you finally got your license from Colonial and that they didn't charge you.
I wish that was the case for me. Before my purchase they emailed me to tell me that I would only have to pay the sales tax on the difference between my new Airstream and my trade in. I purchased my 22' CCD from them on Saturday, 31 Jan. 2004. I assumed they would have started processing the DMV work for Virginia the Monday, 2 Feb. I returned to Colonial (269 miles one way) on 16 Feb. to pick up my trailer (Their service is closed on weekends). I was given a 20 day NJ tag.
On March 10, 40 days after I bought the trailer, I still didn't have my VA tags. Their Sales Manager called me up that night and insisted on me paying $583 more before he would send me the plates. He said that Virginia requires sales tax on the entire amount of the new trailer. He should have known this, it's his job. They sell trailers all over the country. Colonial should have eaten the cost, it was their oversight. But I got my VISA out and paid the extra DMV fee and an additional fee for a NY auto registration contractor. I felt is was ransom money.
I my case, Colonial let me down, and while I won't discourage someone from buying from them if they want to, I will always tell a prospective buyer to beware of their "Bait and Switch" sales tactics. Get everything in writing and if the Sales Manager (who you'll negotiate the deal with) doesn't honor his salesmen's written promises, politely get up and walk out the door. In hindsight, that's what I should have done.
ParkView RV Center, located in Delaware. To the best of my knowledge, they're more than up to the task of providing full service for your Airstream~This includes repairing your blemishes as well. (backing into that tree which didn't move while you were backing up. )
Well I just got what seems like a very good price on a new 34' Classic from Colonial Airstream. Aside from the comments in this thread, is there anything that anyone can add pro or con about this dealership? It's always nice to get the opinion of those that have prior experence.
Thanks
Jack
I attempted to order vinyl inserts for my Argosy from Colonial. I e-mailed them and called them; however, no one ever called me back to take my order. This went on for about a week until I saw the light. I ordered from a very nice and helpful person at Inland RV and got the inserts very shortly afterwards. Inland was a little more expensive than some other places I've seen on the forum, but they got me what I needed and helped me to be sure I got the right amount. Judy
