Thumbs up They look like happy campers already!

As they should be, with the kind of sevice you guys gave them. I wonder how many other dealers give an orientation like the one you give? Wouldn't be surprized if it's only a handful in the whole RV community. I know of one SOB dealer that doesn't!

Congrats to the new Bambi owners, may their camping have sunny days, mild nights, and no pot holes!

Hey Vern,

At this point, the website is an attractive and well-organized shell, though looks like they need to add a bit of content. I can't wait until they fill in the staff profiles to see what they write about you! Also, viewing it from a Virginian perspective, the driving directions (take 95 until the Exxon Gas Station) is so simplistic, it's actually amusing. I wonder if it would be the only Exxon from here--possible, I suppose!

So, are you giving up the day job?

Hi Mary`
Could be you're right as we seem to be surrounded by Mobile stations all over the countryside...lol
The people that I come in contact with know me as a 'fellow Airstreamer' and, that's good enough for me.
So,
I'd be very surprised if they mention me at ALL...
How's the project coming along with your unit?
Between the two jobs, I'm lucky if I even get a chance to look at it, much less walk inside..
If you're ever back up this way visiting, by all means, drop in for a few..
(Since the directions are so easy, no excuse for not..~ ).
ciao

So, would this mean that we'd have to be customers to meet up with you??? ;-}

Honestly, I haven't done much on the trailer in October. Early, I went on a week-long trip for work, so that cut in (and the jet lag made me bonk). I made a rather feeble effort at lifting up flooring for about a half hour last weekend. The results were pathetic!

Recently, I've been spending most of my free time canvassing for the next election. Even though I have to say that I hate the nastiness of politics these days, I've really enjoyed meeting folks face-to-face. Folks seem to enjoy my calls--I think giving respect to everyone's opinon is critical. I get to know my community better, gather support for causes I believe in, learn urban orienteering skills, and get a workout to boot (especially today--I hit 200 garage townhouses--going up a full flight of stairs to each entry)!

I will try to put in a few hours tearing up the floor in the trailer tommorrow morning and after the election. First there's Thanksgiving... then it looks like I'll have two long-haul work trips before the end of the year (argghhhh).

So, I'm not sure how much I'm going to get done. My goal is to redo the floor and finish the cushion covers by next spring's Cherry Blossom Rally. Then the inside will look quite purty! At the same time, Rick's pet project is replacing the plumbing valves--he's about midway done with that.

So, will you do anything this fall? Is every spare hour sucked up now? Or are you going to sell the fleet and go for a spanky new model (or two)?

Over and out...

Hiya~
WOW..I'm impressed with your diversed ventures..
After this weekend, you should be getting a life learning credit for urban engineering~to add to all the other accomplisments in your life.
I had not a clue as to the exact nature of your 'gov't savy'..
At least you're not under the "witness protection program"...lol
The floor project isn't a dunting task, go for it~
I swear..I do need to get away and spend some time picking Rick's brain on the plumbing project..Still have the need to finish the sink/tub project and, to be honest abt it..I have not pulled them apart as of yet..So, now you know where I'm at with the 64GT project.
One of the reasons why I stopped there was..Do I want to try and replace all of the copper lines with PEX lines or can the same copper line be obtained>?
I have this sinking feeling in the back of my mind that, for some reason, the same copper pipe isn't available anymore..(size wise)
That again is mostly based upon the fact I have just not had the time to do the proper research..
Nope, I'll never sell the '84 Airstream..You know that's my "baby"~!
I could see myself selling the 64GT oneday, and replacing it with a new 19' CCD thats been highly modified..My dream unit would be the CCD with the "Safari" treatment for the ceiling and walls..KWIM? I'm not a convert to the bare inside wall/ceiling..Just yet`
I'm planning a trip or two this winter down to the Sandbridge, (Va. Beach)..Maybe you and Rick could join me as guest?
Talk it over and see what you can do..I'd love to see your unit parked next to mine..We can visit over a campfire in the evening after a day at the beach~
Keep in that thought in mind..
ciao

Good morning!

I asked Rick about this...He's been only replacing faucets and valves under sinks. We like the old shower head, but haven't been able to find a washer to fit it (and it leaks), so Rick's going to put in a shut-off valve to cut off the shower from the rest of the system. If we use it, we'll have to open it to get the water to flow into the bath area. Oh, and our biggest problem is that the exterior connection leaks. Fortunately, we've found no signs of leaking from the belly pan, so we're holding our fingers crossed that nothing else is bad down there.

Rick says that the copper piping used is standard sized and still available. However, when they made these, they (probably) put in the plumbing before installing the interior shell. The way it is now, there's lots of stuff making it a bit unaccessible. Consequently, replacing the copper piping--and giving every joint a properly sweated weld, would be awfully tough to do (and possibly a fire danger). That's why he figures most folks use plastic, which is a whole lot easier to join.

OTOH, if you go plastic, you have to replace everything. That's a whole lot of work. He says that folks doing some small changes in areas where the pipes are accessible will do copper repair and small replacements. On the other hand, if your pipes leak everywhere (typically he says from being frozen), you may have to replace everything. One thing he's been told is that it's good to let pipe pipes run low near tanks, so you can have an emergency drain point.

You may want to consider the option of cutting through the belly pan to gain access (if unaccessible from the inside) to the tub area. It strikes me that it would be awfully difficult to use a torch underneath a unit unless it was raised up several feet--maybe you can rent some time on a lift at an RV shop?

My work is hardly spooky! I work on modernization plans for civil aviation administrations. Rick works in a plant making silicon wafers for computer chips.

Thanks for the invite--how about maybe in the spring? Without heat (except a portable heater), our unit really isn't outfitted for winter travel. Maybe you could hit the Cherry Blossom rally too!

For us midwesterners, there is a new dealership just south of Milwaukee called Ewalds. They opened earlier this summer and will be having a grand opening sometime next spring.

Vern-

I was wondering - why weren't there any Airstreams at the RV show in Boston? Or did they have an inside track on the predicted weather? Some little bird from an SOB dealer told me that it was somewhat of a flop. Hope the weather cooperates for the Portland show. Will try to get the family to get out of hybernation and go-

Great`

Barb,
I know we tried real hard to get in but to no avail...
It seems that, unless you're in on the planning floor a year ahead of the next year's event, it's booked solid..KWIM?
Refer to:
Portland, Me..
We'll all be looking forward to seeing everyone...It should be a great show~
Since your visit last Fall..
It's been a real wild ride with all the changes here lately.
A huge influx of new inventory, etc.
I'd recommend calling ahead (as always) if you're planning on any repair work as to where to take your unit. Because, in the very near future, all of the services work for the RV's is expected to commence here at this location.
I know the guys in the shop are doing a fantastic job~
I'll keep you folks informed.
ciao
