Bike carriers

WOWEE,

Airstream now has special designed tandem bike carries available.

One model is for the Eddie Bauer trailers that costs $295.00, a discounted price.

The other model is for all the regular Airstream and Argosy trailers that costs $425.00, a discounted price.

Andy,
A couple of questions:
  • it would fit on my 2007 19' Bambi without damaging anything?
  • are these available from you?
  • any pictures available?
Thanks!

This is the bike rack I saw at Airstream last Sept. It was mounted on a 2012 25' Flying Cloud. Guess it was the prototype. It's very well made. At the time I couldn't find anyone who would tell me anything at Airstream. Should make a lot of people happy.

Guess that won't work on our Safari Sport - we don't have a back bumper!

I want one! Any info on installation? Is this a do-it-yourself project or a dealer install item?

Funny this would get posted today.

Last week I ordered, and today I installed, a Curt front receiver on our truck (a 20 min job), and assembled and set up a two bike SportRack.

That's OK. I don't think this new unit would fit our '83 Excella anyway, and I can mount the new rack on the back of the truck when not towing the trailer.

Just found the timing amusing.

I wish I could find a way to take nine bikes along! We are sticking to scooters. Sigh.

It's possible ... 5-6 on a roof rack and 3-4 on a front hitch receiver rack. Even easier if you have a truck.

It looks like the Classics are going to be left out. Bummer.

I wonder..... Don't those big flat rivets which hold the bumper ends on attach to the frame tips? If so, I'd think a bracket mod could be done and the rivets could be replaced with bolts??????
edit:
Upon further review, I think the rack is too wide at the base.

When I was in JC back in November, I was told that the rack was likely to be a FC, Safari, and International only design do to its attachment to the bumper. Looks like that held true.

We had the VW camper version of this from Fiamma and it is very similar. Nothing wrong with that. Simple design that supports the wheels and holds the bikes rock solid. We traveled all over the country with it on several trips and nothing ever came loose or broke.

Easy to run a chain through the bikes and rack, and lock them to the frame. I especially liked the idea of having the rack as a stand to keep the bikes on when in camp, no tipping in the wind.

Expensive but that is part of a quality product that is designed for a particular vehicle. I don't believe Fiamma makes a universal-type carrier.

Well, for me, I guess it doesn't matter. My Classic got for Christmas the Arvika tongue setup like MoJo has pictured on another thread.

Let's hope that JC doesn't think that most Classic owners are too old to ride bikes....

bike rack

Looks like all trailers before 1997 are left out, if I read the ad correctly. If so, that leaves me out with all 5 trailers! Yikes!
