Best Trailer Restore/Repair in California

If you have not looked at some of the art that this shop turns out you should tour this site. Amazing work, http://www.vintage-vacations.com/

Had that site bookmarked for a while.
Tasteful, very tasteful. Not too much, not too little, just right......

Maybe a rhinestone countertop

Man Hut, thanks for that link. Haven't had that much fun since twink took leave. Now that is a shop that does what others can only dream. I am surprised I have never heard of them before, but have added it to my must sees when I roll into LA next.

Uwe get over there and make pals with that guy. Let me know what is his libation of choice.

got a glimpse of a formed stainless shower in one of the pix. It alone probably would quad-x my investment in the whole shebang I'm working on.
How bout a birds eye maple interior with ebony inlays and a cloissone enameled exterior. ....

Hey Jaco,
The guy's name is Craig Dorsey. He's a very nice cat and rally knows his stuff. He does a lot of other trailers as well, just solong that they're vintage and odd.
I e-mailed him, and he gave me a few links for recessed 12V lights and the likes. (www.swego.com) was one of them. They put on a vintage trailer rally at Newport beach Resort every year, but i missed it every year so far.
I saw him just recently, on TV's travel channel , or HG TV or some show like that. He delivered a custom Airstream to a Movie Star, and the film crew went with hm to bring it. Nice little show.

I redid my Argosy kitchen with red countertops and stainless steel
because of the Vintage Vacation site. I get it back tommorrow.

Hey Dave red & silver are great combo colors. Anxiously awaiting your pix.
Where did you stumble onto VinageVacations?

Im thinking of red in the galley myself. I want my 74 to have a 45-55 look.
Just not a 45-50 Airstream look.
My greatest delimma is the walnut dark stuff, It really is far from the lighter woods of the years I have in mind. But I am no purist and will make do.
Tell Allison Krause I'm possibly available, or Rhonda Vincent will do too.

Actually........Alison and Rhonda are not considered " REAL " bluegrass
to many traditionalists. Rhonda showed up at my camping clubs
Thanksgiving dinner ( September 1 ) and she sang Amazing Grace
with me before dinner.....she blistered it....Man what a siren !!!!!!!
Good eater too!!!!!!!

Agrred. I've seen Craig Dorsey's work and it is beautiful. The price tag on those restorations is as much as $100,000.

what is the wall covering that he uses? is it some kind of wood veneer? how do you suppose it is affixed to the interior skin? or is IT the interior skin?

It is the interior skin. The raised strips between the panels hid the fasteners. The curved sheets are normally steamed to make the curve and then attached to the framework of the coach. It is stunningly beautiful, but at the price they should be.

Yes, I believe so. Looking at some of the old Spartan Manors (another hobby I cannot afford right now) it is a plywood with the exposed face having the high dollar veneer on it. The cover strips are normally solid stock that has been cut, shaped, drilled, and bent as necessary to form the covering for all the fasteners.

Ok, my favorite resto site is this one

http://www.winickdesign.com/Interest...ation_home.htm

This guy used to post on the forum but I haven't seen him lately. I love his Caravel though. I don't think there's anything in there I don't like! Oh, if only I had the guts to tear into my own little Caravel...

Type of fasteners for the wood plywood panels?

Anybody with ideas as to what type of fasteners would be best for the wood plywood panels?

Stephanie,

I had the pleasure to tour David Winick's Caravel at the International. It is a superb restoration. See what you get to do when you go to an International?

Oh, I'm so jealous! I'd love to see his Caravel in person! I think I need a second Caravel so I can leave this one original and have a second one to 'go nuts' on. Maybe when this one is finished. Are they ever finished?

Hey girl
I haven't been on the forum in ages. Been really busy rebuilding Airstreams since the Internantional Rally this summer. It's now a full-time biz. Go to my website www.winickdesign.com and see what I've been up to. Also I should note that a new website will be posted before x-mas. The new biz is vintage trailering and the web address will be vintagetrailering.com
I've not dropped off the face of the earth. LOL
Just trying to make the coolest trailers.
