Airstream Camp

This is an attempt to gauge interest....

What do you folks think about the idea of Airstream Camp? As I work at getting my kid set with her Summer Camp, I thought why not have camp for adults? This brought the idea of Airstream Camp into my head.

I was envisioning a very intensive week or two(depending on interest) of trailer restoration. I envision a small group no larger than 5 learning hands on. We could delve into many aspects involved in restoring trailers. I think panel replacement, fabrication and riveting to be a very good segment. Just about any aspect of the restoration could be focused on depending on interest.

What do you folks think?
I am not trying to compete with Trailer Academy or the Texas Resto Rally. I would only do this as an intensive small group experience.

Frank, just my personal reaction - I would jump at a one-two day session on maintenance and necessities, particularly use of sealants, tire care and changing, corrosion prevention, trouble shooting systems etc. But trailer restoration would not be for me or my wife, at this time. Joe

I'd agree with jayseejay. A couple of days to go over maintenance and some repair, especially for those new to Airstreams (like us), would be great.

It was a success

Frank.....This sounds like something along the lines of the "Restoration Rally" in Albuquerque. A Great success with an increasing attendance. I think your idea, in your area would be tremendous.

I think that this is a great idea. Would answer question, with hands on, that everyone from long time owner to new owners would attend. Question is would this be a roving (at different locations) gathering for information/education on how/why our AS do what they do.

I agree with the others. A two day course would work better for me. Depending of course on the location I would attend.

Count me in , I would enjoy every minute of this
Most of the people that are nixing this have new or newer trailers so no it would be of no interest to them , I see there point as every day maintance is more their interest

Great Idea

Having attended three of the Restoration Rallies in Albequerque and many Texas Vintage rallies, I would say that you have zeroed in on the missing niche.

A person can always learn from someone with a different approach.

I would be interested.

I really like the idea. Maybe a 4 -5 day thing, and you could do a day on systems and maintenance, a day on interiors, a day on exteriors, a day or two on structure repair -floors, panels, etc. On site camping would be a nice option.

You seem to be inclined toward a camp focusing primarily on major restoration work, and I'm interested. Others seem to want more basic maintenance and repair info. Maybe offer both, or split a week into two sessions that can be combined or done individually. There are lots of options to consider - you're onto something!

Could set up a program of things to do and people could come and go as interested. Such as axle changing, panel replacing, water heater replace, leak finding. Have a cost to attend individual seminars.

For me it could be beneficial if you went into some of the more advanced stuff, like working new body panels. What would the costs associated with it be?

I will just say I know nothing of maintaining new trailers. I honestly do not want to learn since my shop cuts off work at 1979. Perhaps this is a gap Airstream Dealers need to fill. The demand seems to be high.
I can say if I do this it will be at least a week. I don't want to skim over things, that's what Youtube is for. I want this to be very intensive. Participants will do actual real work. Hands will get dirty, sweat will be produced, blood might even be shed.

I'm in. Just say the time and place, Frank. I owe you several beers already, this will be my chance to repay you 'round the campfire.

May I suggest The Great Smokey Mountians, maybe late summer, early fall?? I feel there's a roadtrip in the making......
