Air Conditioner pans

Carrier makes a 15,000 BTU Roof AC, that would work great for many owners.

The basic problem is that a drain pan at this moment does not exist.

However, we are working on a small inexpensive pan kit, that is made out of fiberglass.

We would like to know how many might be interested in this new developement.

Would it only work on Carrier units?

Each type or brand AC has it's own unique base.

The Carrier AC pan, will only fit it, at least hopefully, by the time we are done with the R & D.

The idea here is that the Carrier is very light compared to others, and has some special features that none of the others have.

More later. Bench testing etc, is now in progress.

I would be interested in hearing some of the advantages Carrier offers. If at all significant, it would not take all that much to get me to replace my noisy, ugly, and (I suspect) inefficient Coleman.

More Q's

Andy,

15K BTU is a strong unit.

Any idea of what the total weight of the Carrier might be? And the height with the drain pan?

Also, if an older unit (say an early 60's) did not have A/C originally, could the Carrier be made to work? And how would the drain pan direct the condensate? Over the side?

Carrier is certainly a good name in home air conditioners.

I believe that the Carrier RV air conditioners are developed to handle condensation differently so it does not run down the sides of the trailer.

The only problem I had with them is that they are boxy looking and not as sleek looking as Dometic.

SPEC PAGE for various models of A/C's.

Not sure of pricing but Airstream has pans for the dometic A/C's 13,500 and 15,000 btu's according to there parts book..... There Duo-therm's Penguins with heat pumps..

Here is another link to the point about the condesation control..Manual from Carrier

I have also found that a Carrier AIr V weighs approx 90lbs.. still looking for dometics weight..

Airstream only offers a pan for the Duo-Therm Penguin which is not the high efficiency model from Duo-Therm. they are shorter by 3 inches (9"vs 12") so the wind drag is less while moving.

I have heard that the Carrier unit is loud. My Colemans aren't exactly quiet!

I guess the interest in Carrier is the Carrier name and reputation and the cost which is usually $150 less for a similar 15,000 BTU unit.

I too am concerned about the load on the generator. My two old Coleman's said 20amp under the cover when I took the shield off. I am assuming that 2 new 15 amp units will be easier for the generator than the old existing 20amp units. (FYI - I have the 7k Kohler generator)

The Carriers probably sling the condensate water up onto the condenser coils much like a lot of residential window units. Very efficient but a bit noisy. You can tell on the window units, you can hear it sloshing up, sizzling and hissing nonstop.

I am not sure if you can hear it on the Carriers.
