Thanks for the great detailed pics. We were hoping the back hatch had a screen, and it does! What an amazing design. Airstream outdid itself on this one.

Only the 25 and ONLY with the queen....

I'm walking away.... was sad until

I met a wonderful businessman who restores classic cars and likes Airstreams. We talked. He's able to do several projects that I possibly could do IF I had the tools and the time.
  • I'll be converting queen to twins.
  • I'll be redoing kitchen sink and cabinets - more like the later 25's but with the curved doors in stainless - and the lobsterbowl sink and new countertops Ditto for the table finish.
  • I'm replacing the current stovetop with a SMEV - the oven might get turned into a convection microwave but I'm undecided.
  • With my "new" vintage Singer 319 I'll be able to do "pleather" upholstery.

Hi Paula,
These changes sound exciting! Please post when it's done.

Hey, try to see if he can add that back hatch door too . . . maybe even the Mothership can do it. Now that would be wild.

But don't give up hope on a larger EB edition. Paul talked to someone at the Mothership and there may be larger ones coming. Honestly, the back end of a 27FB is the same as a 25FB, so it wouldn't be a big deal.

Anyway, I'm happy hear about your renos, and think of the money you'll save on yet another AS.

Lisa

That back hatch is nice. With the table down and street side seating up, a couple of bikes could fit back there. It would even be nice to bring more of the outdoors in on nice days.

The Eddie Bauer is really nice looking - but probably not that great for a fulltimer. With the fold-up seating you lose a whole lot of under the bench storage, and the kitchen cabinets - minus the L shaped counter will have less storage for pots & pans, etc. I suppose one Could use attractive baskets made from rattan or other natural fibers, but then where to put the kayaks. Some really nice ideas though.

I'm going to have to order the SMEV through Airstream or some other manufacturer since they aren't selling it direct to consumers. Plus what to do with countertops? So many choices.

I don't trust that back hatch - interesting but I would rather have had them do some nice stuff to a 25FB and keep it "tight and sealed"...

Nice to see they are thinking out of the box...

we had a Basecamp with a back hatch that never quite closed right. In fact we drove back from Florida last December and hit some snow on the way back and it seriously looked like it snowed inside. So this is my only concern about the new EB. Still, I really like the design and the layout. I can really see this being my next AS as long as the back hatch remains sealed. I'll be looking forward to reading the trip reports from those who are first to get their hands on this one!

We also had the leaky Basecamp and I hope that the designers of this one learned from that experience. We shipped so much dust that it looked like we had been on a cattle drive in a covered wagon. I will be interested in hearing from those who purchase first about their dusty or not experiences.

Wouldn't this hatch be a copy of the one on the 34 toyhauler they made in 09? I think there were only one or two members here who had one, but I don't remember any reports of leaks.

Here is a story I came across in the NYT about the EB model.
Airstream's Eddie Bauer Trailer Makes Camp at Sundance - NYTimes.com

I think this is a nice looking model (for a new one) I like the look of the protruding wheel well flares but think the plastic or ABS type material will become a maintenance problem some day. Highly riveted stainless would look much better and last much longer. The wheels are too flashy for me....hey, everybodies a critic!

I like that SILVER jacket too....but OH!!! the humanity that they lost there heads. Grizzly attack no doubt.
