1992 Excella clear coat & frame question
I need feedback on the issues experienced with the clear coating peeling on 1990’s Excella trailers please. I’m looking at one to purchase but I’m reluctant about potential problems with the clear coat
Also, I need feedback regarding any frame and/or water damage issues related to the rear bathroom. I’ve previously had to do a shell-off restoration on a 1972 international because of a rear bathroom - “butt drop” - frame issue and I NEVER want to have the pleasure again!!
In Florida? I would think the clear coat should need to be replaced unless the trailer spent most of its time inside or under a cover. At least it is an easy process to do. Lots of links about it.
Sticking with the Florida location assumption I would recommend a roof coating. It will seal any leaks and also reflect the sun's energy.
As to the frame: the newer trailer you are looking at has a heavier frame. If your rear compartment looks good (no rust or chips of rusty metal) you are probably OK. If you find those I would be concerned. I had that in my trailer and the frame in the rear needed boxing in with new steel. In my case the rear is the bedroom so taking the beds out and replacing the sub floor is the way I obtained the access. More fun to weld from the top, but you could do the same from the bottom.

I would have NEVER thought about a roof coating. That’s a BRILLIANT idea. Thanks a ton!
Our 1995 Excella, (recently purchased in Florida) needed removal of clear coat. I think you should expect that for the year. Rustoleum Aircraft Stripper is our friend.
Unrealistic expectations always lead to disappointment.
