Did you get the email
Abe,
Want to see if you got my email. Looks like it sent, but I got a msg from my outgoing virus checker that it did not due to a mail server disconnect. Let me know if I need to resend

Hey David,
I was looking at your photos and where is your spare?
Did I also read about a "bunk option" on your A/S? I have read a post by "twink" aka Eric that he was going to have this added at the homecomming.
Thanks,
Abe

Spare tire location
Abe,
The spare is mounted underneath the front portion of the trailer in a semirecessed area of the underbelly. Not sure if A/S makes the recessed area as standard build or just on those rigs with spare tires. The tire drops down via a lever at the front. I just got home getting our rig out of storage for this weekend, so I will take a few pics of the spare and send them to you.
As for the bunk, A/S did offer it as an option, but starting in '03 they discontinued it. A/S did not make many of these (they were all special ordered) . As you can see in our pics, it looks like an overhead locker when closed (the doors actually open into the space so that if you remove the mattress as we did, the area become a huge storage locker. This storage is more than twice the normal front locker space (20" deep, 80" width and 19" high). I have plans to make a shelf unit fitting inside the space to better utilize the area, but have not had time to make it. Being able to lower the front and thereby totally opening the area is a plus (ie vs just the access provided by the doors). While we would not probably have ordered it, we have really been glad the dealer did as it gave us much needed interior storage space.

David,
I like the location of the spare. I wrongly thought that it went behind the propane tanks.
Is the bunk over the couch? It blends in so well that I am not sure if I am looking at the correct photo.
Again , have to tell you what a wonderful make over that you did! I think A/S needs to get you to help with the interiors!

Yes, above the couch
Abe,
The bunk is above the couch. It folds at the middle so that it looked nice during the day. The mattress also folded at the middle (it was 6" foam). The bunk was designed to hold 175#s so it was kids only, but it was really well designed. The ladder that you see in the original blue interior pic locked into a set of holes in a bracket for added support of the front edge as well as holding the ladder in place. We removed the bracket as along with the the mattress, but kept both should we ever sell and the new owner want to use it again as a bunk. BTW, the couch also makes into a bed (78X48).
Thanks for the comments on our makeover. Several have commented that we should go into the A/S makeover business. We have given it some thought, but no decision.
I just sent you the pics of the spare tire setup.

I purchased my pre-owned Bambi last year through eBay. Mine is the same as dtbw's Airstream except:
1) dtbw's came with an 18-gallon black tank; mine had only an 8-gallon
2) mine has a microwave convection oven instead of the standard gas oven
3) dtbw's came with the bunk option whereas mine didn't
4) mine has "Safari LS" badging whereas dtbw's has "Bambi" badging
5) dtbw's has a lovely custom interior whereas mine is factory

Road side & rear window awning istallation
I have been following this thread for a long time and am going to install a road side & rear window awning like dtbw. I just ordered them from Zip Dee. They will be shipped on the 25th, so I have about two weeks to figure out how to install them.
Any sugestions will be appreciated, especially if there are pictures included.
TIA

Hi, Bambi people! My wife and I just bought a 1963 Bambi 16'. I have it gutted and am about to start on a floor replacement. We camped in it 4 nights before I started tearing it abart. We love it. We also have a 1946 Kit Teardrop trailer that we travel in as well. Would be happy to hear from any and all. The more I get into this project the better I feel about deciding to do a full restoration. We pull the trailers with a 1968 Ford F100 4x4 that I just put a 1993 Bronco 5 Liter EFI engine in. I installed the wiring, fuel tank, conputer, etc from the bronco. We have put 5000+ miles on the truck so far with no problems. I am very pleased so far gas milage went from 11mph with the old engine to 22 with the new.

Congrats!
I would guess that your holding tanks are as follows:
Black tank 8 gallons
Gray tank 15 gallons
Fresh tank 20 gallons
Airstream changed production of the black tank size halfway thru the production year in 2002. The upgraded tank size was 18 gallons.

Believe it or not I just did a Google search for "1999 bambi".
I was surprised since I had already spent considerable time looking over the Airstream website for info on my new Bambi. I'm pleased to be able to share the secrets I have learned from the Airstream website.

I did a test on the black tank in my '99 Bambi, it took almost two 5 gallon buckets of water to fill 'er up.
