2003 Bambi

We toured the Airstream plant in early November and saw the first 2003 Bambi on the assembly line. We also saw the first two 2003 Skydeck motorhomes in the finishing area.

Thumbs up Windows

Looks like the same front windows as the International. That makes sense since the Bambi and International are both 8' wide. It should make the dinette or couch in the Bambi very open and bright.

I wish I had that wrap-around rear window in the galley of my International. It would make a nice galley even more attractive.

That Bambi will be a great looking trailer.

fishbowl?

I guess it is a center bath?

It would be interesting to have one of those windows in the shower area!! Wonder what the layout is?

this is the new 16ft international ccd. thor is not making a 16ft bambi after earlier 2002 models. note the riveted/split side windows ala the 22ft ccd... front and rear wraps. the floor plan is included in the new airstream brochure available at the dealer. there is no shower. i have not found out if there is an L-couch option ala the bambi. The photo i have seen has the dinette... at least this is the information i have been able to gather.. see it here *click on the 2003 16ft ccd ad for photo http://www.rvtraderonline.com/dealer.html?724403

16' International

I was inside one, when I took my factory tour. Rest assured, you will never have to worry about falling off the toilet in that one! There are times when I wish I had something like a 22 footer for short jaunts, but man, that 16 footer is small. Might be good for someone who frequents festivals, and needs a place to take a snoze, or get in out of the rain. I wonder how big the holding tanks are on it.

Some confusion

While looking for the 16' CCD at the link listed above, I ran into this:

I just looked at the RVTraderOnline site at what George M. Sutton RV lits as a 22' CCD.

http://www.rvtraderonline.com/addetail.html?28595892

They have it listed as having a "front queen bed" when, in fact, the CCD has a 48" wide bed which is not even a full size bed. It is also said to sleep 4 ... two of those had better be small children since the dinette is only 38" wide.

They have "levelling jacks" listed when the CCD has 2 rear lightweight stabilizers that are definitely not "levelling jacks".

Goes to show that the dealers don't even know what they have to sell. Sounds like they have some info from the new 28' CCD mixed in.

16' CCD

Well, I found the 16-foot CCD ad with just one photo and not an interior photo at that.

I still haven't doped out the floorplan. There could be the CCD bed crosswise in the rear under a full wraparound window, or there could be a curbside double and the CCD bathroom streetside rear.

I can't figure where they would fit in a wardrobe in either case.

The ad says it sleeps 2. Could this mean one on the convertable dinette and one on a single in the rear? That would allow space for some of the other stuff.

The engineer in me cries out for answers.

I downloaded and sized the photo from the ad, then forgot to post it.

OK, I'm gonna vote

I have been studying both photos (the shell in the first post and the one I just posted. Here's my guess.

Crosswise single bed in the rear, second bed is the convertable dinette. Clue to crosswise bed is the storage door clear across the rear. Water heater under streetside end of bed.

Bathroom is curbside center of trailer. The vent fan can be seen just behind the door in the photo I posted. The narrow windows seen behind the door are probably frosted bathroom windows.

I'm guessing at a short wardrobe hanging from the ceiling over the bathroom end of the bed. I can't guess at anywhere else it could be.

Time will tell!

The ad calls it a Bambi, but the nameplate clearly says International.

I'm betting the dinette is the only bed... just like in the 16' Bambi

The only bed?

I could be wrong, but ...

Based on the depth of the front shell, that dinette isn't more than about 3' wide and tapered on one end at that. Making allowance for the thickness of the shell, the end nearest the door would be only as wide as the door. I would truly hate to see that be the only bed. Even a 48" "double" is just about comfortable for two adults.

OTOH, the bathroom appears to be over and forward of the axle on the curb side, behind those hot-dog windows.* That leads to the question: What is in that back end with full wraparound windows and storage under?** I think it has to be a single bed, just like the front double in the 22' CCD, but narrower, maybe about 36".

* The bathroom vent fan is centered above the door on the curb side.

** Notice that storage door goes clear across the rear in the first photo in this forum. That has to be under a bed. Also, the water heater opening has to be under something.

Inside?

Hi all, after looking at the photos, I remembered that I saw a drawing of such a "Bambi" in an architecture magazine. It had a short story on the Bambi designed by Mr. CCD. Here's what the drawings showed - Modern Bambi with dual wrap windows. Dinette in front, turns into "double". From curbside entry, a short (?maybe 2ft long?) cabinet (probably where the furnace is, followed by a small bathroom area. Interesting thing - the bathroom rear bulkhead was not side / side, but a front to back bulkhead encompasing the rear quarter window! My guess is the toilet is right under the quarter window, with a wet shower combo ala CCD. This is not so strange with the rear window, as my toilet is right under the rear window of our TT. The rear center-window, roadside quarter is part of the kitchen. As you enter the trailer, the kitchen is a L wrap from in fron to around the rear. Sink is next to the dinette, cooktop over the wheels (hot water here probably), and fridge in the rear. The idea of the trailer is for "active people, looking for some shelter from sports, i.e. surfing, biking etc." I didn't get the idea that it was made for more that two, or for real extended stays. I thought it looked pretty cool in my opinion. Incidently, it did mention a "hammock" that was suspended from the ceiling for one more person to sleep or "stash gear." It was to be held in place with aircraft cable. I don't see it mentioned on the A/S site however? I do know it took forever to post the CCD (22')on the A/S site in 2002.

16 ccd(International

The 16' ccd has a bed across the rear of the trailer with a dinette across the front. It does not have a wet bath but hook-ups for exterior shower. It has alot of room for a 16' trailer.

Lynn is correct

A little birdie in the A/S world confirmed privately that I had correctly guessed the interior layout and it is just as Lynn says, bed across the rear and a mid-bath with no shower.

The photos show that the layout can not be as 3Ms75Argosy claims since the galley is clearly roadside, across from the door.

Christopher Deam has done a number of interior concepts before (and probably since) the 22' AS and CCD came out and they have appeared in various publications. 3Ms75Argosy's description is pretty close to what became the production International AS; the rear wraparound changed to two more practical opening windows.

BTW: Some of the electrical schematics in my manual are titled "22' Bambi", so we know there was some confusion over the naming of the new line.
