16' CCD Mattress Options - Replace or Enhance

Hi,

I wanted to send this out to the Bambi 16 CCD folks. Has anyone upgraded their mattress - either by replacing it or putting a foam pad on top? I am particularly interested in adding the foam pad option.

I have searched a few threads on this subject Do you know of a source for replacement mattresses?

But have not seen any mention or experience of a recent-model Bambi owner doing this.

Looking at the specifications on the website, it appears that the bed is 48"x78" (?) - but that is for a current model (I have a 2004) - but maybe the same? Anyway, I will measure the mattress. I'm thinking of calling one of the memory foam places to see if they take custom orders - but wanted to check if anyone else has been through this? Another option might to buy a larger foam pad and cut to size?

I bought a king size 3" thick memory foam topper, cut it in half and use it on both of our gouchos. We both love it.
You should be able to do something similar. Buy an oversize topper and cut to fit.

We bought 2" Memory Foam topper from Overstocks.com for Rear Queen bed in our trailer.. I believe it was 4 pound rating (comes as 3 or 4 or 5..). Trimmed to fit including curved rear outside edge, and used excess for padding in gap between mattress and wall now, and it works well...

Might be more of a challenge with folding sofa bed, as you'd need to store during day use... A 5 pound foam in 3" thickness would almost be equal to new mattress...

You're right, we do store the toppers during daytime - but the comfort is more than worth the hassle. I could never find a comfortable spot for long, where I wasn't sleeping on the seam between the cushions. Now we don't know the seams are there.
