Toilet

A while back I helped a friend replace the Aqua Magic IV toilet (tall version) in his motorhome with a different kind. I could not believe how crappy (pun intended) the Aqua Magic IV toilet was. There was no pipe leading from the bottom of the bowl to the top of the black water tank... the waste just sorta falls through a wide open area between the bowl and the exterior plastic. Needless to say it was a mess, and offered lots of opportunity for smell to migrate into the living area. The replacement unit was MUCH better - I think it was an Aurora.

I am about to pick up a brand new Airstream Safari 25C in a couple weeks... and it has the dreaded Aqua Magic IV. I'm thinking that now is the opportunity to install a decent toilet without having to deal with the mess and stink. Suggestions for a specific make and model that will fit? I see the Aurora is larger than the Aqua Magic IV, will it fit? Has anyone done this?

Installation, not design

His toilet wasn't installed correctly, then. The toilet should be on a flange on a pipe into the waste tank with everything below sealed air tight The only opening from the waste tank to outer air should be the vent pipe.

Next time you are at an RV store look at an Aqua Magic IV from below. The bottom of the bowl to the bottom of the toilet has about a 3" gap wide open to the underside of the toilet - exposing the mechanism and more to waste. See Aqua Magic IV, the gap is between #17 and #10. Most disgusting!

Other models have a pipe to bridge this gap, effectively sealing things up much better. See Aurora, notice part #3.

Bravura

I recently replaced my toilet with a high profile Bravura. Nice clean operation and it's more like a home style toilet too.

Thetford Bravura Toilet

Like, John, I replaced my toilet with a Thetford Bravura (tall). I have a 30ft Excella and the mechanism was not working to my liking. Replacing the toilet was easier than doing the one in my house so I would recommend doing so if you are having problems with yours.
