Looks like a Zip Dee. It should say A&E or Zip Dee somewhere on the awning. Check the arms.

The arms are certainly not Zip Dees.

Thanks, but the trailer is 100 miles away so I was hoping to get some info before I took the trip to look at it. Trailer looks nice, but it has the Hehr windows which is a bit of a negative and I wanted to check on the awning as I have read the A&Es can be problematic in their mounting and that parts are hard to come by.

The awning is an A&E. My 1999 25' Safari had one just like it. I replaced it with a Zip Dee because I wanted an awning over the roadside windows and could not find an A&E to match.

Is this something that I should really worry about? I know the A&Es are hard to get parts for etc., but generally do they work ok? Also about what would I be looking at if at some point I wanted to install a Zip Dee?

BTW I have a Carefree my Jayco and it has been (knock wood) a very good awning for the past 7 years.

A&E and Carefree are very similar, up to the point many parts will interchange. The only parts on an A&E (made by Dometic) that are a little tough to find are the curved arms.

Just an update, We are now the proud owners of this trailer! We went over the whole trailer with the PO and everything is it very nice shape, including the awning. He had made new heavy duty bottom brackets for the awning right after he purchased it in ''04. The awning looks nice and works fine although a zip Dee would no doubt be nicer. But we will stick with it as long as it works reliably. Thanks for your input.

Thanks. Here are some photos that the PO took of the trailer. It was well cared for and in very nice shape. We are currently getting it ready for it's "maiden voyage".Picasa Web Albums - fauxpasdenman - Airstream Safari

Great pictures! It is so beautiful! The POs really took amazing care of it. The flooring looks like cork. That will be so warm underfoot. Enjoy! It doesn't look like you have to do anything except move in dishes for your maiden voyage. Happy camping!

Lisa:

Thanks for you best wishes. Yes the previous owner took really good care of it. I knew that as soon as I spoke to him on the phone. He lives about 120 miles from me and I took off from work last Thurs. to go down and look/buy it, as I figured if I didn't someone would buy it quickly. Yes it has a cork floor and he did a great job on it, he is quite a craftsman, even made matching moulding to run along the bottom of the cabinets. I don't think it needed it, but we gave it a going over last weekend and my try to head out this weekend. Now I just have to see my SOB which will be hard as it was great trailer and we had a lot of fun with it. It's in good shape so hopefully a young family can continue doing the same.

Thanks again for you interest,

Dennie
