Great progress on new U-shaped dinette

I just posted a bunch of details and more pictures in the main "u-shaped dinette" thread. Materials are cherry hardwood and stainless steel.

Such a huge upgrade from the smelly ugly convertible sofa. Next steps are to staple in upholstery webbing, install in the trailer, get cushions made, and fabricate the drop down table top.

That webbing is a great idea for providing airflow and lightweight too! Hmmmm... Might work under the beds to stop mold. I like it!

That is not a bad idea, but you would need to sister strong rails to the existing bedframes to staple the webbing into - I used 1.5" x 2" cherry hardwood, and I reinforced with a crossmember when the span was longer than 24"...

There is a LOT of tension on the frame from the straps trying to pull the rails into the center, even before you sit / lay on them...

All ready for tailgating - still needs professional cushions, edge molding on the table, and some detailing - but getting close. My homemade stand for the table is a little wobbly - will need to get a professional model I think.

Nice color combinations. Will the 'professional' cushions be the same color? Great work!

Here is the final product. I'm extremely happy with how it came out. Total cost of the cushions was about $2000. I sourced the materials for the cushions but hired a professional seamstress to assemble them. It was another $500 or so in materials for the benches. And of course a lot of labor. Will be trying it out at the Pac 12 football championship game tomorrow, and crossing my fingers to be able to head to the Rose bowl next month too.

That's really sweet! Where will you store the table? And does it convert to a bed?

Beautiful work - luv the metallic inserts.

Thanks for the kind words. When traveling, the table fits vertically in a slot behind the street side bench. It does convert into a bed - there are cleats on the benches you can sort of see in the pictures - they are an inch below the top of the benches in the U section. The table drops down to rest on the cleats, and two of the backrests are the correct length and width to cover the table.

At some point I'll take a picture with the table up and down. For the tailgater tomorrow the table is sitting home in my garage.

Looks great!! Think I saw trailer at Oregon State game next to stadium in eucalyptus trees. Should have said hi...

Looks like small soggy crowd for game, and wish ticket prices more reasonable..
Go Stanford!
