Unhappy Model Type

Ok, now I am confused (as if I wasn't to begin with!) I just received a call from my insurance carrier who is having a hard time trying to figure out just how to insure our trailer and what kind of value to place on it. She has asked me what Safari model I have, double or twin and also whether it's a LY or LLY. I have NO CLUE! Maybe someone can help. My Airstream has the u-shaped settee in the front with the dinette area curbside. So I guess I have a double bed in the front and the dinette makes into a twin? So that doesn't help me answer whether it's a double or a twin. I have no idea what an LY or LLY is either. I hope someone out there can shed light on this for me.

Thanks,

Lana

Greetings Lana!

Your serial number should identify whether the coach is considered a double or a twin. If you find a "D" in the serial number it is considered a double. If you find a "T" in the serical number it is considered a twin. My Minuet has the same "L" lounge you describe and it is considered a "T" twin.

During the time when your trailer was manufactured, all Airstreams were considered Land Yachts. As an option, it could have been equipped with the International package which would have included upgrades to a number of systems in the coach (the upgrades and contents of the International package varied by year). The International Package's presence is usually identified by a placquard attached to the side of the trailer near the door - - the serial number plate should also be found there as well.

Good luck in resolving the issues with your insurer.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin. You are a wealth of information! Maybe someday I'll get there! After the snow melts I'll have to have the owner make the trek out in her field to get me the numbers. I hope she gets the title soon so I can get my baby to my house and start working. I'm getting a little nervous about what we might find hidden that needs to be repaired before we can use it this summer and I do plan on using it this summer!

Lana,
Congratulations on your Safari. I'm in the Fenton area and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Hopefully you might consider joining the local unit of the WBCCI in St. Louis. I'm the new webmaster for the unit. Let me know if you are interested, especially since the first year is free for new Airstream owners.

We are doing some rally's close to home next year. The first one will be at the local dealer's site, where he has facilities.

Here is our web address. http://www.angelfire.com/mo/stlunit/

Thanks Jack. We didn't know there was a local chapter. We are in Kirkwood so we aren't too far from you in Fenton. I'll check you the website.
