Little Red light

Can anyone tell me about the little Red light in the rear compartment on the right side. I'm thinking this may be light when 110 power is hooked up?
Oh, 1966 safari 22'

Thanks

If that light comes on when you plug in to shore power, don't touch the trailer, especially if you are standing in a water puddle. Seriously.
That is the "reverse power" indicator light. It only lights if the skin of the trailer is "live".

Terry, Thanks for the reply. I have never seen it on, so it's sounds like that's a good thing. How do you get the bulb out and how do you test the system?

I dont think it necessariy shows the skin is hot. You would have probably figured that out already. It is supposed to indicate the outlet you are hooked up to has reversed polarity. With reversed polarity your lights and stuff will still work, but you will fry electronics.

Sherman, since I personally have gotten zapped a couple of times when that light was on, I'd have to disagree with you. Now, the trailers that bit me may have had other problems that were added to by the little red light, two lights on and two zappings have led me to the above conclusion.

Overlander just has a magnetic personality.

Thre's one way an outlet can be wired right. There's a bunch an outlet can be wired wrong which will light the light, I think. The most common would be postive / nuetral reversal. I don't think that will charge the skin but (again I think) nuetral/ ground reversal will. If I am wrong I hope someone who actually know what they are talking about will correct me.

But in any event you can buy an idiot proof outlet tester for cheap that will tell you if an outlet is wired correctly and if not exactly how it is miswired.

The light makes connection between neutral and ground, so when the polarity is reversed the neutral is hot and the light comes on and the electricity going through the light goes to ground which is the trailer frame and shell making them hot electrically.

EDIT Not much current just enough to feel it if that is the only problem.

That light may turn red when the security system is set.

How did you find out? It was supposed to be a secret that the little red light was a laser sight for the twin 50 caliber machine guns mounted in the rear as a tailgater deterrent.

Thanks for the info

I recently acquired a '67 Safari and was wondering about the light (as well as a million other things).
