David & Diane's '68 Safari Milestone
Today we reached a milestone in the renovation of our 68 Safari......first let me go thru a photographic quick history of our work on the Safari. This will take a few posts, sorry I don't know how to do it all in one post.
First is a picture of what the trailer looked like inside and out when we got her home.

Sheetmetal parts
Collected sheet metal parts, designed new grey water box, created isometric drawings of all pieces and sent out to be made.

Milestone
The milestone for us is the first time we put something back onto the trailer, it may be only a coat of primer on the rear bumper, but that is a big deal to me. Have been in demolition mode for too long, it is a great day when we finally crest the hill and begin the fun aspect of this project.
Yea!

Looking awesome, keep up the good work. I can't wait until we can fix up our baby. First I have to finish the house I am building for my daughter next door. Plumbing done, drywall almost finished, I can see the light and it is (so far) definitely NOT an oncoming train.
My baby sits and waits in the driveway, soon, soon we will start the butt lift and facelift and she will be beautiful and shiny again.
I am so happy for you, it won't be long until you are heading down the road on her maiden voyage.

Our next effort will be to run a wire brush over the frame and cover in POR-15, then we will really be cooking with gas.
I almost made reservation for a Christmas rally today, getting a little ahead of myself.

This weeks update
We are busily working on the frame. First we had to repair the main frame members at the rear of trailer. Cut a patch out of angle iron and welded in place.

Then on to the tanks
We had to remove what was left of the tank support structure and create new supports to hold the new tank boxes we had made for our project.

Outriggers come next
We had to repair an outrigger that was the victim of my elevator bolt removal, not to bad if you consider that I had so many opportunities to make this mistake and came away with only one oops.

Replacing the four bad outriggers
We started with the bad outrigger on the curb side rear, this went fairly well, except having to trim a quarter inch from each outrigger.
The third photo is our setup for making sure the new outrigger is at the proper level, checking the distance at both ends of outrigger assures proper placement.
The fourth photo is the completed installation of three new outriggers on the street side front.
Next step will be to POR-15 the frame.
