I couldn't find a kit to rebuild the original stainless flush valve so I'm reengineering the toilet with a new plastic they ford valve.

That's the old valve.
I took it apart and used the stainless l shaped shaft from it in a new plastic valve.

I opened up the standard Thetford plastic valve and put the old L shaped shaft in from the original valve.

Cleaned and painted the mounting plate. Used new rubber expanding nuts from Ace. My new favorite store. All stainless machine screws and nuts.

Put a film of silicone on the rough ceramic bowl flange and mounted the remade valve. It's about 3/8 inch thicker than the old one so I cut some 3/8 spacers out of steel that I had in my shop.

Bead blasted the base parts. They were nasty.

To be continued. . .

Wow. That's real dedication!

I contemplated rebuilding the Swirl-o-Matic on our 1960 Pacer--I was going to have to remanufacture several of the internal components, but I planned to make the new ones out of stainless steel. It would have been quite a project, but I never got a round tuit before we sold the trailer and bought a bigger one.

Thetford water valve. Replaces original brass valve with a bit of work. I'm not a fan of plastic valves. Hopefully it will hold up.

These are the 3/8 spacers that I made to accommodate the thicker flush valve.

I am currently testing whether the bowl is water tight. It looks good so far. I'm letting water sit in the bowl overnight to be sure.

My fingers are crossed.

Dave

Outstanding design and workmanship!

I took the opposite approach. I installed a Thetford Curve pp and use my old black tank for a gray tank.

Hey, whatever works for you.

Thanks Dan
My old black tank was beyond repair so I made this one as big as could fit in the space and am switching to valterra valves.
