Today my cousin Rich and I built 7 cabinet doors... The doors turned out great! I forgot my camera in Rita, and Rita is still at my cousin's place... and I drove home. So, no pics of the new doors tonight.
This weekend it's going to be over 100 degrees in Shasta Lake City, so the Bunny and I will return to Mt. Shasta and pickup Rita, at my cousins. Our plan is to stay at the Mt. Shasta KOA, Friday nite, (We'll ride the bikes downtown and have dinner). On Saturday, we'll head for the Mt. Shasta Ski Park, for a Beer & Wine tasting event. We hope to camp in the parking lot at the Ski Park... Sunday, there is a Downhill bicycle race at the Ski Park, so we hope to be on site for that event, Sunday moring.

A little change in the plans.... Weed, (7 miles north of Mt. Shasta), is having the 1st annual Blackbird music festival, with over 50 bands playing on five diff. stages. Two city blocks will be blocked off from traffic.
We are going to stay at the Friendly RV park in south Weed on Sat. nite, (2 miles from downtown Weed, so we can ride our bikes to & from). Should be interesting... google "Blackbrid music festival" if you would like more information.

Here are some of the pics I took at my cousin's house on the 28th when he built 7 cabinet doors... In 5 hours he had all 7 doors built, I did the clean-up and 1st sanding. I hope to get Rich to build the upper doors also, sometime within the next two weeks. I will remove the doors once I get home to do the sanding & staining of each... plus install door knobs.

On Friday, the Bunny and returned to Mt. Shasta and picked up Rita at my cousin's house, from there we drove over to the KOA in downtown Mt. Shasta City for the night (10 min. drive). That night after setting up camp, and feeding the dogs. The Bunny and I walked downtown to the "Goat Tavern", and had a great light dinner. Walking back to the KOA, we stopped for a drink at the "Vets Club", which is the oldest bar in Mt. Shasta.
As far as campgrounds go, it was just "OK"... bathrooms were busy, and not very clean for a KOA...but if you're wanting a campsite close to downtown, this is the best location for night life and fine dinning.

On Saturday, July 30th, we moved to the "Weed Friendly RV park." That's "Weed" as in the town of..... It's located off the South Weed exit, just 10 minutes north of Mt. Shasta City. They let us check-in, 1 1/2 hours early, at 1130 AM, (very nice of them).
So, once we set-up camp, I fixed Bunny's flat tire on her bike, then took the dogs for a couple of walks. Sometime around 3:00 PM we rode our bike's to the 4 & 20 Blackbird Music Festival, which was a 2 mile bike ride, all down hill, from Friendly RV.
The following is there web site.... The Official 4and20 Blackbird Music Festival
For a first year event, I thought is was great....lots and lots of good music, everything from southern Rock, to Mississippi Blues, to New Age Rock...to the "One eyed Dolls"....?

$15 bucks per person, got us the "Mongo Pass" which gave us access to all of the indoor venues.
More pics of the 4 & 20 Blackbird Music Festival... the Black Butte Saloon, and Papa's Place were two of the music venues.

We stopped at Mcdonald's for Ice Cream before calling it a night, so I got a pic of our bikes with Mt. Shasta in the background. This morning I took a few pics of the "Weed Friendly RV Park" with Black Butte in the back ground. Many of the folks who stay here, are "One Nighter's", traveling between Seattle and LA, or Portland and SF...

One of the issues that I have about this weekend was...there were too many events going on at once in Syskiyou County. McCloud was having a Lumberjack event, the Mt. Shasta Ski Park had the Beer tasting event & bike race on Sunday, Downtown Mt. Shasta had "Shastarama" Saturday night (Japanese Koda drummers), and Weed with the 4 & 20 Music festival. Hopefully the coordinators will meet and maybe change some dates for next summer.

Hey Rex! Friendly RV park is one of our favorite stops on the way down south... There's a great BBQ place right outside the main gate... (and huge pancakes for breakfast!). Service is SLOW, but food is great! Can't remember the name, but there's a smoker outside.

Hey Marc....Is that the place across the street from McDonalds? If so, we looked at it, but went with the Mexican Restaurant, (Three Amigos). What did you think of the Friendly RV park? I thought it was interesting that they didn't accept credit cards. But the Men's bathroom/shower was clean....

Hey Rex! You're right... there are a lot of stopover people there... (we're one of them!)
Also interesting how many people stay for extended work periods too. I thought as you, clean, nothing fancy, MUCH better than some parking lot somewhere. I laughter too when I heard they only take cash, but now we plan for that! They also let us stay late so we could sleep in.
Glad you're having nice weather! We're finally getting ours up north!

Started sanding the new doors yesterday... having problems with the sander surface, looks like I will need to pruchase a new one. if I can't replace the surface pad, (surface screws are making marks on the door surface). My power tools are wearing out!

my sander was doing the same thing.
i went to osh and bought a piece of neoprene, i think it was 1/8" thick.
removed/cleaned the old off and used spray applied adhesive to stick the new on.
works great.

Thanks for the tip Mr. MarkR, do you have any pics of your fix...I would like to fix my old sander. But for now, today I purchased a new "Skill" sander, at Home Depot. I also got a new Batt/Op drill, and a Skill worktable with clamps.
Today I sanded three of the new doors, and put the first coat of stain on them....the new sander and table work great! It's nice to be moving "Forward" again.....

Couple weeks back I ran into a campground in upstate New York that didn't take credit cards. Cash and ( go figure) checks only. Didn't know anyone took checks any more. I guess you can't blame them with what the banks service charges are.
Nice job on the doors. I just may take that job on one of these days. In fact, nice job on all the woodwork.
