What's it worth?

I'm looking at buying one of two 1975 Sovereign's. Both say "everything" works (be assured, before I actually put money out I will pay a reputable RV shop to inspect it).

One is for $8500 the other is $5000. What's a good/fair price?

I just found out on the $5000 unit the sunscreen coating which is inside the thermopane is deteriorated. The remedy is ignore it or replace all of the windows... I'm voting for option 2 but I haven't a clue how much windows are.

I would appreciate input from those with more knowledge and experience.

Just in case this falls through... I'm looking for a 70's Sovereign with vista windows over stacked windows, I'd prefer bedroom in the back but I can live with a bathroom there too.

Y2k,
Have you seen the Price VS Condition Guide? Take a look and maybe it will help you along. According to the guide both trailer prices you mention fall into the "Average" Condition column and one is at the low end of the scale and the other at the tippy top of the scale. So maybe the sellers have seen the page I linked . Good luck with your inspection and choice.

Most of the 70's AS with vista view windows have the double pane windows with the "stuff" sandwiched between. You can often break out the inner pane and clean and seal and leave just one pane in place. Sometimes you can take the inner pane off and replace it after cleaning, but it's tricky. The rear bedroom Sovereigns are prone to have frame sag at a higher rate than the mid-bath ones. Lots of weight in the rear with an inadequate frame for the rear bath. It can be fixed, but is expensive. $8,500.00 seems high unless a lot of restoration and updating has already been done. I'm sure I have much more than that invested in my 78 Argosy, but selling for what you have invested is not often possible. Axels can be a problem for older trailers, so read up about this expensive replacement too. Go take a look and if you really want it and know what you're getting into, go for it. We all over look the faults in a trailer we just have to have. As long as you're not facing major repair to get him on the road, these are great trailers to own. We have having fun with our 76 Sovereign without putting much money into it. Take a look at this side view and see how far up on the tires the trailer is riding. You should be able to see a good bit of the tire over the wheel if your axels are not completely shot. Good luck.
