Refrigerator thermostat: which way?

The more we use our refrigerator, the better it works! One frozen can of root beer later, we are wondering which way is colder and which way is warmer? Both thermostats have numbers on them, BTW.

Higher number = more coldness. I guess they figured if they did low numbers=lower temperature people would expect consistent performance out of the frustrating things.

Thanks! I was thinking that was it, but didn't want to take a chance on freezing more stuff just to find out. I suppose ambient temperature makes a big difference in the adjustment also. Thought it was interesting that the diet pop froze first.
