Excella questions ?

Hello, we are trying to understand what most excellas have when it comes to carpet in the kitchen.

My wife says she would rather not have it in the kitchen but will accept it if most (1996-2000) comes that way.

In an earlier post I ask about dinettes and found out some do and some don't so I imagine carpet is the same.

We are looking at excellas and limited AS and just wondered if there is a spec sheet that says all excellas have carpet and all limited does not (kitchen) etc.

Thanks,

Robbie R.

My '97 had yellow shag carpet in the kitchen. We opted to take it out and put down some vinyl. See some of the vinyl here: http://www.airforums.com/photos/show...00&userid=3264

The problem with the OEM carpet is that the floor is covered with the carpet before the cabinets are installed at the factory. If you remove all the OEM carpet and if you don't put back carpet where the OEM carpet was located, you wind up with a space the thickness of the carpet under the cabinets. In other words, the cabinets are suspended above the floor deck, hung by the walls, with a 1/2" or so gap between the wood decking and the cabinet bottoms where the carpet used to be. I chose to make wood shims to support the cabinets where the carpet was removed. When I put the sheet vinyl down, I had to use quarter round oak at the perimeter to hide the gap and shims between the sheet vinyl and the bottom of the cabinets. It was a pain, but turned out well.

Don't let the presence of carpet be the decision maker in the selection of your trailer.

It is all too easy to remove it and install a manufactured wood floor. I did mine with my assistant.

HowieE, that looks great !

Thanks Bob. I just wondered if the carpet thing was just a random deal.

I looked at all your pics and just wonder how you find time to go camping........

Great work !

I cut up the carpet in my kitchen (too many spilled glasses of grape juice) and installed Treadmaster vinyl flooring from Home Depot in its place and I've never looked back since then.

Ours started with carpeting in all areas. The PO pulled that out and did the floor in Pergo. Looks great and is easily cleaned up.

In researching our '91 I found that it was an option to have a non carpeted floor in the kitchen. I really don't recall what the option was, vinyl or wood.
Our non excella '77 had wood/composite tile in the kitchen with carpet everywhere else.

Its really not a big deal to pull the carpet and put down whatever style floor ya' want

Last week I was sitting pondering the same question, I was pulling out the original yellow shag and recarpeting my Excella with a scrap piece of carpet that would do the whole length from the rear up past the kitchen. Really wanted the look and feel of new carpet in the kitchen but decided to cut it off where the patchwork wood type stuff is in the kitchen. I've never kept a dry floor in a kitchen, so I doubt I could start now. The original carpet installation looked like it was a real class job. I used two wide flat chisels to talk the carpet edges back under the edges of the beds.

Whatever the flooring is it will be 20 years old and could use and update. We have 2 late 80's Excellas with the carpet long gone from both.

Hi

Between us and the dogs, a lot gets tracked into something like a trailer or a house. I would not vote for carpet anywhere near a door or a work area. Find something easier to clean and go with that.
