How did you get the plastic wall covering off? It looks like, in the photos, that you pulled it and uncovered lovely silver siding.

Hi, I read your thread.... Me and my wife are on the fence about purchasing a camper. A good friend of mine has a 86 excella 32' rear twin beds. Has been pulled very little the outside is in almost perfect shape minus needing some new decals. Interior all original. We're are expecting our first kid in September and are rally nervouse about the purchase. We have talked price a little bit. Looks like it's going to be around $7,000. We have thought about a newer camper with slide out over the airstream but really love the nastalgia. I just am looking for some insight on the price of that's a good buy or not. The prices of these things are all over the place it's hard to get a real number. You can pm me if you would like. Thanks and if anybody else has any info in all ears!!!! Sorry to hijack your thread just looking for good insight

Love your remodel! We're about to paint our 25' '89 Excella. We bought engineered lumber to attach to the inside vertical walls for some interest. I'd be very interested in seeing your updated photos of the interior of yours. Thanks for the great story.

Evansdmax, we purchased our 25' '89 Excella for this past winter. It was dated but otherwise in great condition. My engineer husband replaced/installed a new charger converter, added a trimetric battery monitoring system, and installed two group 29 twelve volt batteries. We're replacing the toilet, I think, and updating the interior including new floors, paint on walls, paint in bathroom, recovering the sofa, etc. My husband asks if everything works: refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven, toilet, furnace, air conditioner, etc. Also, has it had leaks? We seem to have one little leak around a front window. We're going to solve that one soon. But honestly, our little home just needed our personal touches. The price you mentioned, barring issues I described above, sounds fine.

If everything works, seven grand is a fantastic price for a 32 foot Excella. Even if everything doesn't work, barring and huge issues (and thus, costs), that's still a really good price. We have a four year old and went for a 25' trailer because it is MUCH easier to maneuver, and we plan on using ours in more "outdoorsey" areas (not just camper lots). It's not huge, but it's plenty of space for us!

I honestly can't tell a huge difference in maneuverability from a 4x8 utility trailer to a 32' utility trailer.
In fact the longer trailers seem to be easier to maneuver especially when backing.

Ok that's what I wanted to hear!!! I just want to be secure.... Any lab advice on where to go through..... We have been saving for a camper but with the baby on the way would feel more comfortable just borrowing some of the money to keep out bank account full for unexpected expenses.

I meant to say that we purchased our '89 25' Excella for $7500. We felt good about the price. Everything worked, but my husband chose to update a few things. We are updating the interior as mentioned above. (It looked/smelled of the '80s!) We were very happy with the price. We paid cash, so I can't tell you about loans.

Right... parking a 4x8 in a tight spot by the river in the woods (up a mountain with 64 switch backs) is exactly like parking a 32' trailer.

Yep...
The short one will jack knife into a tree quicker...
The short trailers respond quicker.
You have to be very slow and make very gentle turns on the steering wheel.
You cannot stop watching or get distracted.
Once you get a long trailer headed the right way it will pretty much stay on course.
Can you ultimately get the smaller trailer into a smaller space?
Of course...

We have had a busy year. We have camped in many states and more often than not lately we are traveling without as many of the kids. This year our fourth one will turn 18! Quickly they are all turning into college students without the time to join us for family trips. With our changing family dynamic (and the fact that we have literally run out of projects on the bunkhouse) we are planning to sell. We have continuously upgraded since we started, of course, and most recently replaced and upgraded the axles, wheels, tires (again!) brakes, and all running gear. As set up, the bunkhouse sleeps 12-- 9 in permanent beds plus four on various pullouts-- and of course seats just as many for banquet-style dining inside. The dishwasher, whole-house vacuum, outside shower, tank-washing system, custom hickory cabinets, and more storage than any other Airstream we have ever been in make it a great candidate for a tiny home for a fulltiming family, since there's even room for guests and sleepovers. Anyone interested? The Airstream is in absolutely beautiful condition and has been featured in numerous publications. Feel free to private message us.
