We had this question by pm and I thought we should post the question and answer here as well:

Then it lays down on the frame when the slide is pulled out?
Thanks! They are heavy duty load-rated full-extension slides. No additional support (legs etc) needed. They'll hold several people even when fully extended. The piece on the piano hinge stays lying down all the time. I held it up for photos just to show the mechanism underneath. That piece floats, resting on top of the pullout piece. That way there is never a gap no matter how far the bed is extended. There is no back in the sofa, the exterior wall acts as the back and the back cushions rest against it. When the seat is pulled out to make a bed, the back cushions become the rest of the mattress by lying down between the wall and the seat cushions.

We've made a lot more progress. By "we" I mean mostly Rob. He installed the gooooorgeous new stove. He finished refinishing all of the cabinets and putting on the new hardware. He finished making the hickory cabinet at the foot of the bed which will hold our outside chairs. He made the narrow tabletops at each end of the sofa which will hold our two Airstream folding tables. He topped all of those with butcher block which he stained and poly'd. The back half of cabinet top lifts off as well for access to the back of that cabinet. He installed the whole-house vac and the vac pan under the kitchen sink might be my favorite new toy. You just sweep over to it and touch it with your toe and it flips open and sucks in all the dust. He hooked up the plumbing and tested everything and fixed the leaks, so now the plumbing is all up-to-speed. He made the face frames for the bases of the bunks as well. He made the new bunk wall and put the metal fronts on both the bunk wall and the end wall of the kitchen by the door. He put up the living room tv mount and mounted and hooked up the tv.

I had a long week at school and then had a marathon conference call/online meeting for the Space Camp Alumni Advancement Board, but I did manage to modify the curtains we got from our awesome Airstream friend Kate-- and now they are installed covering the panoramic windows in the front. Still trying to decide whether to make more for other windows or just leave them with just blinds. We're used to just curtains so I guess we'll have to see how it goes as we get used to the new Airstream. Rob's tank washing system worked great and he is cleaning and sanitizing the whole water system. He washed the outside and did some panel work and belly pan repair and some sealing, cleaned and refinished the Airstream logos, installed a new slinky holder, sanded and painted the hitch and tongue (using chassis-saver on parts as needed) and put in a bunch of new l.e.d. Lights on the exterior. Then he made dinner. (Eat your hearts out, ladies!) The new wheels/tires are ready to go on. It'll be a work-in-progress for quite some time, but it's getting there. Still need to build all the kids' bunks.

Katie, I think you secretly have about 3 husbands named Rob....or Rob is one of triplet brothers...all named the same. You both are pretty awesome. We can't wait to see it again!

It's true: Rob is the one-man cavalry! He does more in one day than most guys can do in a week. Honestly, he is the energizer bunny. His work ethic paired with his extensive knowledge and his overall positive energy make him the only guy I'd want to be marooned on a desert island with. (BOTH of my parents say that!) I am firmly convinced that Rob can do anything. And will. But yes, he's available to work on other peoples' airstreams again -- AFTER this one is closer to being finished! I will take more photos after work and post them.
