Question 1984 29' excella rear beds

I am considering purchasing this model (1984 29' excella)if my truck can pull it. Anyone own one? Can you tell me how much it weighs and any issues that this year or model has. It includes a generator mounted on the fork was this factory? I have looked at quite a few but never an excella. Can anyone tell me the particulars?
Thanks
SAra

While I don't have personal experience with the coach you are considering, you can find the information regarding Empty Weight and Hitch Weight at:

Airstream Weights and Measures

The table doesn't seem to list a 29' 1984 Excella Rear Bedroom, but it does list 29' Sovereign Rear Bedroom with an Empty Weight (no options or fluids) of 5,300 pounds with a hitch weight of 550 - - adding about 1,500 pounds for options, fluids, and personal possession should give you a ballpark figure for probable gross weight with a loaded hitch weight that would likely approach 750 pounds.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin

I do not remember any AS trailer with a tongue mounted factory genny.

I would suspect that a PO mounted generator would add a couple of hundred pounds to the tongue weight.

I suggest that this trailer be weighed to obtain the weight of each wheel and the tongue if there is any question of Tow Vehicle robustness.

Remember - the weight of the generator will most likely be considered as payload weight (subtracted from tne 1500 allowable).

Sure doesn't leave much for "stuff" and liquids.

I have a 1987 29' Sovereign. It lists as Kevin said. My actual weight with minimal liquids(6gal in hot water + 5-10gal fresh water) is 6700 lbs for the trailer including hitch. I have A/C, 30lb gas bottles, ice maker, and my wife is a pack rat on food, utensils, etc. That includes propane and all the assorted stuff we take along. The hitch weight was 590 lbs of the 6700 total. Chassis weight is 6800 lb. so (6700-590=6110) or 690 lbs to spare on axles.

I am towing with a 2500hd GMC 300hp 4.1rear. Just returned from Intl Rally. Came down thru back roads of Kentucky & Tenn. Truck did a beautiful job but, you know the trailer is there.

The truck with hitch weight and misc gear we haul is almost same weight as the trailer. 13400 lbs total.

Generator was not standard. I think Airstreams quality was about the best during the 80's. Your furnace is old enough to be an issue (misc switches, gas control valve, thermostat), Microwave is getting tired, Frig had dual thermostats if original and expensive to service. Clear coat is well beyound 10 years, brakes will have some minor issues. Vulkem needs touching up around doors, vents, etc.

Check your lock and deadbolt. Expensive if you have to replace. Are front windows leaking? Drapes are expensive if soiled.

I have had very few problems with mine. I have no sagging in rear. Mine spent a little time in Florida but, frame was not rusted bad.
