All I have is a frame to the gaucho. I dont know if is complete or not. Can anyone help me with a templete ? The measurements are 22" x 22" x 72". It is wood with a long piano hinge. It lifts in the front to slide down. It is 48" to the wall when down. The frame itself ends 4" shy of the wall. I wish to know how to make a new cushion(s). Also the thickness. How many pieces? Any help is appreciated. Pictures would be great.

It looks like it is one with the 3 fold cushions. Bottom cushion I believe runs around 20" then the middle one around 15 1/2" and the back one 12 1/2 to 13". There is a band sewn to the top between the cushions to keep them from seperating when it is a bed. The back cushion flips to the back when it is in the couch position. The middle cushion has a board in the back of it. When Airstream made them, they just stapled the fabric right on the board. Hope this helps!

Silver Threads, I may contact you with making the cushions. I dont think it had three as there is no room in the back. It has 2-4 inches (depending on end) before the wall. If I use 5-6 inch foam .... The man I got it from said he thought it was two sewn together. This makes sence but what is going to keep them from sliding off. Was there a covered board up front. Do I go beyond the front frame? or flush? What ever the thickness I choose it means the lower cushion is going to be that much shorter since it is attached to the back and its thickness. Did the tufts on these attach to the board. I see some rivits in the back board. I am so confused on this one.

This is exactly like ours, and our cushions were one solid piece that was thinner in the middle to ease when cushion was folded, it really looked just like a futon mattress, and that is what we were going to replace it with, until we got a wild hair and tore the whole thing out. Our side piece, by the door was also upholstered and then we did have an upholstered back piece as well, I guess for sleeping up against.

My 76 Safari has the same set up, one piece foam three boards upolstered into but under the foam for attachmemt to the plywood an L channel top and bottom with an upolstered slat to cover the edge.

My '77 is just like that also. One big o' futon lookin' mattress that is velcroed to the plywood.

Hi,

I tried to upload some pictures ,I hope they turn out.
Maybe this will give you an idea of what the cushions look like. The thing not in the picture is a flap that goes down to the back of the couch against the wall with some snaps on it , I'm not sure where it snaps behind or why.

The cushions ther self are on an old couch I use for the dogs , the cushions do have buttons in them and look very uncomfortable.

I am going to find some on line or have some made.
