Last tow with Excella 500

I took one trip up the highway to clean off the disc brakes in preparation for the '77 Excella to be picked up by the shipping company. I can't believe she is going all the way to Hamburg, Germany! Here are some pictures of the last tow as I was leaving the driveway. I sure am going to miss her and have even had second thoughts. I will now focus and turn my thoughts toward the '86 Sovereign I bought last April.

David, I like the industrial-stregth rock guard, did you make it, or was it already on the coach when you got it?
Now that you are a one-Airstream family again, make sure you take lots of pictures of your new coach!

Terry,
The aluminum rock guard came with the trailer. It kind of reminded me of Robocop.

Phew - I was waiting for that response - cause I've been dying to say - at first glance "Mad Max and the Thunder Dome" came to mind - but I sure was not going to offend you - and get some bad karma going - yikes.

That Trailer must have come from Toronto - the new North American LA - in need of bullet proof windows

On an even sadder note - it must be really hard to sell an Airstream you have had for a while and have memories in - and possibly worked hard at fixing and/or rennovating.

After our fleeting moment of possible departure last year with MoonBeam at the Florida State Rally - I have been going over and over in my mind - how will we be able to sell her when the time comes - but for many - two trailers means one will be sitting for quite some time without use.

Anyway Craig - it is cool that a little piece of American history will be making its way overseas - just think of all the neat adventures she will have.

And now your soveriegn can be revived and live her own new set of adventures with your family......what are we all that crazy here....are these shinny beauties alive

Good luck with your new project.

Try to keep in touch with your purchasers if you can.

Craig--I feel your pain we just sold our vintage baby. It is nice to know that they will have new adventures and make others happy too. What a beautiful trailer! Thank you for sharing your pictures.

Wow....what a beauty

Although sorrow abounds, seeing photos of your Excella gives those of us that are still working on theirs, some hope....Happy Trails!

When purchased 4 years ago in AZ., the exterior had been stripped, slightly polished and waxed. I used a wash and wax over the years and should have polished it at least once a year. I have put in over 70 hrs. of compounding, polishing with Rolite and then AP300 and Cyclo polisher. Final coat was HighTemp sealer but it left some splotches. I tried NuFinish and it seemed to do ok. The HighTemp people seemed to think I did not remove traces of the AP300 before I put it on. They also recommended I put the sealer on and then wipe it off before it turned to a haze.

I listed her first for $7,200 locally and when I got very few responses I put it on RVSpecialty.net for $7,000. I sold it for somewhat less than that.

The '86 Sovereign 25' I have now needs to have the roof stripped and then polished. I still have a fresh order of cyclowraps, some Rolite Pre-polish left as well as plenty of Nuvite C and AP300. I think I will order some Nuvite S instead of using the AP300. The sides are still in good shape so I will continue to Walbernize. I plan on putting 2 of the AM Solar 100 watt solar panels on this unit since I do a lot of boondocking and later purchasing a Yamaha 3000 boost generator. I may do this in reverse but not sure.
